In a global emergency could we temporarily release rights to all patents for use in the emergency?

So we can counterbalance the tipping point and share all knowledge for free in an emergency. Like an asteroid heading to Earth? Or global climate change?

If you’re not intending to use them for profit I can’t see why not.
I can’t see why anyone would give a shit if you used their idea (patents) for your own use,as long as you don’t market it and try to profit from it.

Has the original question been edited? I could have sworn I read it as something else initially.

@Darth_Algar I edited it after your “What?” comment. Does my question make sense now?

Ah, ok. Yeah, I’d read over it a few times and it wasn’t making sense to me. I get what you’re saying now though.

Could we? Certainly. Would we? Doubtful.

I think, if you declared martial law, you could totally do it.

@ragingloli In Canada we got rid of martial law. It was called the war measures act.

I have never heard of a patent holding up any effort to address a gloabl issue.

The problems the world faces are usually blocked from being sovled by obstinate people who think they would be giving up their right to be miserable.

Is this connected with Trump’s recent signing of the ten millionth US Patent ?

Anyway the patent to be used if an asteroid is heading to Earth is blank apart from Bruce Willis’s phone number.

There won’t be time to worry about or try to control it, if try someone does. It’s like, under these same circumstances, will anyone care about how rare and protected some animal species are when it comes time to kill and eat something.
