Everyone above already said basically what you need to know. Look up the carbs in everything you eat and try to cut it in half. Anything white like pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, chips, crackers, pretzels, has high carbs. Fruit is high in carbs, but better than drinking fruit juice. Orange juice has almost exactly the same carbs/sugar as Coca Cola.
Exercise a little more if you don’t exercise now, to help burn through the carbs you do intake, and help overall cardiovascular health.
Obviously, keep desserts to a minimum.
Was your glucose high? Or, just your A1c borderline high? Don’t be too concerned if your A1c was near the top limit if nirnal if your glucose was a great number.
Do you take statin drugs for cholesterol? That’s are thought to affect blood sugar.
