Why does John Batchelor (the talk show host) say that he's "the great American"?

I tried to have the T and the G (The Great American) lower case.

Do you mean anyone who says “I’m the great American” shouldn’t be taken seriously, why is it?
I believe we try to prevent heart attack because we take it serioulsy, right? Not to say as bad as a heart attack or something like that.
