I used to read Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, as well as Asterix, Lucky Luke, Garfield and The Peanuts. I’ve “graduated” to Calvin and Hobbes, Gaston, and Pearls Before Swine.

I had a collection of Peanuts paperbacks as a kid. I liked Richie Rich, Heckle and Heckle, Archie’s, Dot, Casper.
My daughter is forty years younger than me. I found a few of my old favorites on eBay a few years back. I think she liked them. She never asked me to get more for her though.
Some of them were the same ones I had read when they were new issues in the 70s.

I had a close friend who read them since he was a young teen 50+ years ago. He continued to buy Superman Spiderrman, etc. and was not just a DC or Marvel guy.
When I went to his house we would spread some out on the floor and read. It was wonderful.
We even traced some of the drawings of “pretty” women to learn how a small change could make the woman’s expression change dramatically. I millimeter here, a millimeter there, and you could change a beauty into a monster. Those artists were geniuses!

He passed away last year leaving this mountain to his kids. I hope they appreciate it and either save or dispose of it appropriately.

I went to a comic book store yesterday and bought a Detective Comics trade. There is a run by James Tynion IV in Detective Comics that is fantastic. I’m slowly going through them.

I out grew comic books about the time I was in college, although I have bought, read, and enjoyed graphic novels (such as Maus).

I was always DC, never Marvel. But even DC comics have gotten boring, too much emphasis on dramatic art, less on the story.

No, except an occasional look. I do keep those that I have.

@zenvelo They’re much better now, although I do like the dramatic art. The Detective Comics (rise and fall of the Batmen) run by Tynion I mentioned above is fantastic, and he’s just switched over to a Justice League Dark that I’ve just gotten the first one.

And then DC Vertigo, which isn’t superhero, has always had good quality. I highly recommend Sandman, which is a classic. Watchmen, Batman the Dark Night, Batman The Killing Joke, V for Vendetta are all great.

Two graphic novel series: The Flintstones is way better than you think it is. The graphic novel out of Brazil, “Daytripper” is the most amazing thing I’ve read in a long time.

As a kid I was an avid comic reader. Anything with cartoon characters having great adventures attracted me.

Now I don’t have much time for comics. I concentrate on drawing one instead.

@yesitszen right now it’s just all pencil drafts. I’m at page 46 now. It’s long enough to be graphic novel and I’m doing the best that I can to get it to see the light of day.

I’m taking baby steps to fulfill my childhood dream.
