Car radios are pretty good at picking up weak signals. In my house, I have a separate tuner and amplifier, and I can’t pick up signals that my car radio picks up with ease.

@LostInParadise I’m looking for radio on science and Coast to Coast AM , and comedy . Most of satellite sirusXM is about sports. I’m interested in psychology and philosophy and parapsychology.

Just about every radio station now streams their broadcast. There are quite a few websites and services that offer multiple stations- accuradio.com, tunein, iheartradio, iTunes, BBC World Services.

@RedDeerGuy1 get a DAB radio where you can find the podcasts on demand. You can probably find it online and stream them as well. I listen to a few radio shows and podcasts on science. There are loads of them….. https://www.sciencemag.org/podcasts And they can all be listened to without a radio. Live streaming is available.

What is “good”?

price?
able to pick up distant stations?
how long should the antenna be?
portable?
battery operated?
how good should the sound be? big speaker or small speaker?

you can’t say “good” without laying out some criteria to determine what “good” really means.

This little radio has been my goto radio for years. It’s discontinued but if you can find one second hand cheap it’s a good one.

DAB radio where you can find the podcasts on demand.

DAB is live broadcast radio and is not available in Canada (or the US). The North American equivalent is HD digital radio, which (most?) stations broadcast alongside their analog FM signal.

I don’t know of a box radio that gets podcasts. There are streaming Internet receivers, but not for podcasts. For podcasts you would need a computer or phone app.

But I agree, podcasts are a great suggestion for the huge variety and depth and because they are on-demand.

As for good radios, I recommend looking a the C. Craine web site. They have a broad selection, aimed at radio enthsiasts.

Update: I Subscribed to a cable service that has radio from British Columbia and Alberta. It doesn’t always work, but I appreciate what I get.
