Ok, classical music lovers: can you help me out on this one?

“Great Question” (3points)

I thought it was Chopin, but I can’t find it. It’s definitely piano.

I don’t know how else I might present a melody, so consider this:

It’s in 4/4 time, and the melody begins:

da DA da da DA DA DAA DAA,

where the DA is probably ¼ notes and the little da is 1/8. The long DAA would be half notes. That’s the relationship, anyway.

I don’t know what key it’s in, but if it were in C, it would be like this, with the first G below middle C and the rest at or above:

G  E  E  F  E  C  D…  G…

Is that enough to let you figure it out? If you know the piece, I hope you can recognize it from this.

Thank you.

Thanks, but no. The part I described is, I think, the opening notes (or at least the opening notes of a movement). Were you able to reproduce it on a keyboard?

A friend of mine thinks it is Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11 at the start of the second movement about 20 minutes in.

@flutherother, that is exactly it. Thank you so much, and thank your friend. I’ve bookmarked it now. At least I was right about Chopin—didn’t seem like it could have been anyone else.

Let me return the favor with this, which I think your friend will want to know, if he or she doesn’t already.

@Jeruba I used a midi sequencer and then ran it through music identification software. Both can be a bit overly literal, which is probably why my result was so far off. I’m glad you found it!

@Jeruba I’ve thanked my friend who happened to recognise your music. He is glad to have been of help and I’ve given your music suggestion to him.

Hurray. This is how things are supposed to work on Fluther.
