Nothing is so obvious or hokey that a politician won’t use it. In fact, I think sounding corny or lame is a plus in some people’s minds because it’s nonthreatening. People have seemingly lost the desire to support leaders they can look up to. Instead they want leaders that make them feel superior.
We are going to be hearing word plays on twenty-twenty vision for more than a year, in advertising and popular media as well as politics. I’ve seen a few instances already—such as a professional organization’s conference theme, something like “2020: A New Vision.” But not as many as I expected. I thought this one would have been run into the ground already, just like almost any other idea or fad that seems fresh for about 15 minutes. I’m actually surprised that we’re not worn out with it yet.
