I realize I’m not very strong but is this really normal? I just thought this would come later in life…

What are you talking about? Are you growing weaker? I’ve seen 12 year old boys built like oxen.

I was a tough woman in my twenties. I was petite, but a do it myself and never quitter. I was in the Navy.
One day I was talking with a friend in the recreation center, and a twelve year old boy challenged me to wrestle. I said no, but my friend goaded me into it.
I got my butt wupped. He was a wirey little guy, but he sure put me down fast.

I’m just saying don’t go by one incident.

When I was 12 I was stronger than I am now.

I saw a 5th grader the other day who was about 5 ft 10 in. That’s a 10 year old.

Well, we don’t know how old you are. If you’re 80, it’s not so surprising.

All males have weak spots that will make them collapse immediately when punched/kicked/kneed.
Try hitting it next time, for massive damage.

Always good to go to the gym

But why are you messing with 12 year old boys?
Are you a school teacher?

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

Males are built 2–3x stronger than females of the same size and fitness level.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I don’t think there is any difference until puberty hits.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

I hit puberty at 10. Not surprised a 12 year old would be strong.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

That was unusual @ARE_you_kidding_me. From a source I won’t go through the contortions to link to on my phone:
Puberty usually occurs in girls between the ages of 10 and 14, while in boys it generally occurs later, between the ages of12 and 16.”

My daughter is 11 and she is 5 foot 3. She is very close to being as strong as I am.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

Boys are 9–12 for puberty onset.

Morginia's avatar

@stanleybmanly Yes, some are unusually big of course but I’m talking about the more average ones. Maybe I’m just on the weak side

stanleybmanly's avatar

Once again, is your strength diminishing? Were you once stronger than a 12 year old? Whatever your condition, exercise should improve everything but your joints.

Morginia's avatar

No I don’t think so, I never thought of it before.

stanleybmanly's avatar

What brought it up for you?

Morginia's avatar

Lol, I got last place in an arwrestling competition…

Patty_Melt's avatar

Lol !!!!!!!!
Arm wrestling is not only about strength, but position and whether you can drink Jack Black straight from the bottle.
Most often a first timer is not going to do well.

Don’t take up arm wrestling as a regular thing unless you will switch it up, or you will become noticeably lop sided.

Morginia's avatar

It wasn’t a serious competition, lust family and friends, but the results were quite clear… I was way behind everyone else lol.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Is that all this is about? You are probably the only one in the competition who knows zip about what she’s doing. Technique and intimidation count for a lot in arm wrestling. Many a man has received an unpleasant shock arm from some woman disguised as frail.

Morginia's avatar

Tbh, I don’t think anybody knew what they were doing really…

Dutchess_III's avatar

I used to arm wrestle my son and his friends. The first time I lost was to Zach, who had just turned 14, but I could still beat the other guys, including my son.
That changed very, very quickly, in a matter of weeks.

Morginia's avatar

Yeah I guess I was a beat weaker than you maybe. Or the kids were stronger, I simply didn’t stand a chance against anyone. It’s no big deal in the end, I was surprised that’s all.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I worked hard. I was strong.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Well I’m reasonably sure that it isn’t your arm wrestling or weightlifting abilities on which I would choose to judge the worth of either of you. Now let’s talk about pies!
