He is elected every six years by Voters in Kentucky. They may not re elect him
It could be worse. Senators used to be appointed by the state legislature.
He is then elected as Majority leader by his party within the Senate. They may not want him as Majority leader.
He may or may not be able to politically check a popular president who has veto power, and or House controlled by the other party.
That’s three ways right there to keep him in line.
All of it from a standard high school civics book.
Thanks @janbb, and @josie. Gee, if I hadn’t graduated from high school in 1971 I might have still had those books around to reference.
And I meant specifically overriding or removing him while he is in office and has this power.
@canidmajor It looks sadly like his party in the Senate are the only ones who can do that.
Point is, everybody who’s interests aren’t shared by the majority party wants to have the power of the majority party on their side. Once they win an election or two they have what they want the other side gripes.
So whats the problem. The progressive reform movement of the late 19th and early 20th century stretched out over Reconstruction until the end of the First World War.
But it happened.
And there is clearly a new reform movement brewing as we speak. But it won’t happen tomorrow. And I doubt that it will be finished in your lifetime. But it won’t happen any faster if the Majority leader quit tomorrow. He is only saying that because he knows there aren’t enough votes in the Senate to pass part of the New Progressive agenda.
That gives him the opportunity to show off publicly. He is in Class II. His term is up in 2021, so he has to face an election in 2020.
If he caucused with the Senate Majority and found out they were all inclined to vote for an issue, he would have to bring it up, or not get elected leader.
There is no realistic relief as long as Republicans hold the majority in the Senate.
Not directed at you, but don’t elect the freaking idiot again is the most simple way.
Yeah, I get all that, but @janbb has the most useful information, I was asking about possible removal from office.
Believe me, I will personally do what I can to support any opponent he has next year, but that’s not what I wanted to know now.

@janbb “I’m hoping he is voted out of office in 2020.”
He won’t be, not as long as the Jackson Purchase region remains part of Kentucky at least. McConnell could walk into the home of every voter at dinner time, take a shit on the middle of the table and they’d love him for it.
^^And his base loves him for shitting all over them, wow typical conservative mind set at least he won’t be giving them any of that commie loving Universal health care, if one of his base needs major health care they can just get pay for it into poverty or better yet just go die.
Or get a government job, preferably in the Senate.
Hasn’t he been attempting to do more or less that since 2008?
