Can you help me find the perfect hot dog "bun cradles"?
My grocery store has stopped carrying these particular hot dog buns, and I would be very grateful if you could help me find them. They are rather difficult to describe, but I’ll do the very best I can,
You all know what “normal” hot dog buns look like, I’m sure, and you pull them apart to insert the hot dog, and sometimes, the bun literally falls apart, while you are in the process of using it.
But there is another kind of hot dog bun which has a shape resembling a canoe, into which the hot dog is placed, and this particular bun is one that never falls apart, and none of the ketchup, mustard, onions or relish, ever falls out or leaks out.
The buns are kind of “U-shaped” and are packaged in such a way, that they resemble the interlocking hands in this diagram: http://marketing.bgca.org/standards/images/basic_vertical.gif
You have to slide two of them apart from each other, after you remove them from the package.
These buns are really terrific, and the store where I used to purchase them, called them “cradles” or “bread cradles,” but none of the managers in that store can recall who baked them, or they would order them again, for me.
One rarely comes across “perfect” hot dog buns, but the ones I’m describing certainly qualify.
Can you please help me identify and find them? I’m certain they are still being baked in California; I just need to find out which bakery is producing them.
They are WORTH seeking.
