Simple, bare bones. Not necessarily shabby.

I have a vision in my head for a hotel with that description. It’s flowery bedspreads, the kind that were in hotels 30 years ago, window unit air conditioners, a basic wooden table and chair in the room. I would look for photos on the internet or review sites like TripAdvisor.

I like chain hotels because they’re pretty predictable as far as what you should expect.

Of themselves, I’d agree with your assessment. From a customer, I’d agree with @janbb.

I’d say cheap and shabby, too.
Don’t touch the bedspread or use the shower in bare feet…lol

Plain and simple.
Low-budget.

I’d expect it to be under $100 a night and clean and basic but tasteful and hopefully well managed. The language used implies a degree of intelligence, literacy and care that exceeds that of most budget motels.

But I never go solely by the owner’s description unless I can’t help it.

Check for bed bugs.

2) rates are $57/night but we’re talking off the interstate in the middle of nowhere North Carolina

3) the reviews of the place (on travelocity and other places) don’t match the description. That seems odd to me.

Like lets not pretend that its not a Hotel????
Yeah I say same as above, get photos or better yet don’t bother with that Hotel.
There is nothing in that ad to encourage consumers to go there.
I assume that the costs would give a clue as to the type..cheap?

Knowing it’s a rural N. CA motel has me imagining different things compared to thinking it might be in a city.

For $57 a night I wouldn’t expect much and I wouldn’t be disappointed.

I’d rather pay $100 a night and get a Holiday Inn or a Hampton Inn or a Marriott.

@jca2 that’s what I am going to do. I have to go up there next week for business. Hampton Inn is about 3 miles from this place, and there are several others besides.

By the way, the drive (from Atlanta) up I-26 through S Carolina and N Carolina – is beautiful. And Asheville is a nice town (on the way)

It means that they made no pretence of accommodation.
