I meant this question to go in Social.

I was too self-centered….

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@rebbel -Did you change?

rebbel's avatar

I did, yes.
Once I came to that realization it’s ‘impossible’ to continue like that.
Very unfair, I feel.

I’m very loyal.

Loving someone risks the possibility of tremendous, debilitating, emotional pain.

That familiarity can be a stronger hold than love.

That I would never be with someone overly possessive.

That I don’t want to be with anyone who drinks or does drugs with any regularity.

@JLeslie -You’ve got that right! :)

About myself? That being myself is reasonable and proper.

About others? That women (at least my ex-wife) cannot be trusted. They talk a good game and do the opposite.

That I get too dependent on the person and in over my head. Probably why I’m not looking any more.

That I am too impulsive as well as stupidly unappreciative.

@lucillelucillelucille Ahh go on then, seeing as it’s you.
Let’s just put it this way, I learned I could run fast & I mean like greased lightning.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme -So you used to jog together!
Excellent way to stay in shape!

KNOWITALL's avatar

I learned that I’m attracted to smart men with smart mouths apparently…haha!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@KNOWITALL -I married one so I know what you mean!

I tended to emasculate men. I was tough, intelligent, and independent. I needed a mate who was secure enough to be not intimidated by that. Unfortunately my way of weeding out the wusses was mean, but I didn’t realize how much at the time. I left a lot of whimpering souls in my wake. I regret having been so overbearing.
On the other hand, I’m also a giver. For that I have been used a lot and tossed aside by unappreciative men.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Patty_Melt -At least you know what you want.

Not to make myself a target.

jca2's avatar

I learned that it’s easier to not be in a relationship than to be in a bad relationship.
