Why were you absent so much?

I didn’t keep them. I just know I got good grades.

@Dutchess_III I stayed up all night, playing Nintendo and watching tv and listening to the radio. I was too tired to go to school. I tried to show up for tests and quizzes.
I liked watching tv and news during the day.

My mother kept them. They came to me after she died. Most of the comments were about me refusing to rise to my potential. Funny how my wife assumed the function of those nuns. It turns out that life is but a long term extension of grade school. Which reminds me, better hide the ruler!

My parents probably have them. There are plastic bins in the garage full of my and my siblings’ schoolwork.

My mum kept the ones from primary school which all refer to me being a bright, well mannered pupil who excels at english/maths/art & phys.ed…although I did tend to drift off & lose concentration at times.

One of my Seattle cousins moved to Wichita for a while. We finally hooked up. She had hundreds of family pictures. I convinced her to give them to me to scan, then give back. This was one of those pictures. It’s her mother’s wedding portrait (My Mom’s sister.) My cousing has some substance abuse issues so the pic wasn’t in the best shape, but a bit of Paint touch up and it looks fine.
Anyway, in the mess were her elementary report cards. Her father was a violent alcoholic who beat the kids and his wife. The comments were SO SAD. The teachers were practically begging her parents to step up and help her…..They could only do so much and she need support from home. She never got it.

@Dutchess_III I only saw her twice a month on weekdays. Parents were divorced so dad had lied that he had custody over me. Never occurred that I could ask either one of my parents for advice, seeing I was never rarely caught skipping school? I was a Bart Simpson or Ferris Bueller’s wannabe, and drew energy from being the bratty class clown.
I declared myself as a freedom fighter.
I completed my high school diploma and had one year of administration and two years of liberal arts. So I overcame most of my past neglect for school. Yes I failed both, but Im saving money to finish my bachelor of arts in psychology.

Did your mother not know whether or not she had custody of you? I mean, how could your dad lie about it?

@Dutchess_III I don’t know. It only mattered until I was 12 and could make up my own mind. In high school for grade 10 I moved in with her. I spent my time reading novels on the Light Rail Transit and doing assignments in the school library, and reading the computerized encyclopedia.
It only became an issue when I went into grade 12 and got confronted by the vice-principle and had to sign an attendance contract. Which I honored for 8 months.

@RedDeerGuy1 I’m confused, were you living with your father? And if you were, how did he not know you were missing class?

I have some of mine. Mostly good things other than “talks too much in class” lol

@anniereborn Yes I was living with my dad. I perfected the erasing of the answering machine when the junior high school robo call would rat me out. Dad was gone all day sometimes out of the city doing accounting for businesses.
High school didn’t care and only took me to task in grade 12.
I wasn’t harming anyone and was a low priority. I was passing most of my classes except language arts and gym. In high school I skipped class to read or do assignments , in the library, so I guess the administration was grateful that I wasn’t wasting my time.
The system didn’t care till I met my grade 12 English summer school teacher who had standard’s. All mostly for attendance and completing assignments on time. Miss 3 of any of the two and you where expelled from his class. I honored that commitment and passed his class. With perfect attendance and all homework completed on time.

I didn’t, but my Mom did. Most notes said I was kind, caring, & cooperative. I ALWAYS enjoyed school so I seldom caused any problems!!!

My mom. kept all my report cards, and I now have the transcripts, I got all A’s through 8 Years, but had some issues in high school..
