Do you feel that you instinctively pick up on those proportions when you look at a person or an object?

@LadyMarissa -Now that is funny!
I was reading about a study in which the subjects had to pick which rectangle looked the best.
Most of them picked the one that was in those proportions.
When I was in art school, we were taught about ideal human proportions and when looking at someone,one could see if they fell within certain dimensions.
Then the other day, I saw it used on a person’s front teeth,to show divine proportion in regards to length and width of those teeth.Makes sense until you look at Bugs Bunny in drag.
He was beautiful.

Yes naturally, but the older I get, the more second looks I take at the less than perfect people.

@KNOWITALL – Not all our models fell within the golden ratio,in fact, I can only think of one.
One notices a lot of detail when you’re staring at them for three hours straight though.

I suppose so, in a way.

If a woman’s breasts were just above her belly button, that would not be following the golden ratio and she would look weird and not meet the aesthetic norm for women.

On the other hand, there appear to be golden ratio norms for breast placement:

1

2 (author suggests 45/55)

3 with illustrations [SFW]

amd 4

@lucillelucillelucille I bet!

What I notice in myself, is like at a bar, I’d rather go talk to the quiet, not so attractive guy sometimes. They just are more interesting.

@elbanditoroso – We had charts for both body and face for men and women and most people have some feature that does not fall within those parameters.
@KNOWITALL – I definitely have a type. My friend says I like men with lunch-box heads.
Howie Long, Robert Shaw and Franco Nero.My husband is a lunch box head. I guess i do.LOL
All that aside, if a person isn’t interesting, handsome features won’t help much.
The Golden ratio applies to so many other things though and I notice that it is not always followed in many of today’s automobile designs. Some are just plain fugly.

My type has never changed ever since my gentleman sausage realised there was more to life than peeing.
Dark hair & eyes with a slim/athletic build has always turned me on, if you’re funny, kind & sporty then hold me back mama!!

Absolutely. Proportion is the very definition of beauty, and it universal, for everyone.
Anything beyond that is personal preference.
