If you don’t vote, you can’t bitch about what’s happening in your government.
It’s your right as an American citizen. Practice that right!

They shouldn’t; they could, they can, they may.

Because there can actually be worse things in store for us than the current fool.

The vote is our only recourse. You can write letters but they seldom get past the canned response. If you pay attention and understand the issues you can make a difference. Sometimes it feels futile and you’re swimming against the current but the alternative is to simply drift with the current. My vote doesn’t mean much (especially in California) but at least it gets counted. Every once in a while, I register a success. Makes the whole thing worth while.

I vote for all those denied a vote in our history.
I vote because I care about my fellow Americans.
I vote because there are people out there who believe we are all too stupid to understand how important our educated votes are.

No matter how good or bad our country is, its our responsibility to give a shit. All the people who died in war after war, for democracy, for Americas safety and protecting our rights-I vote for them, as well.

I say “people fought for your right to vote. People died for your right to vote. You need to vote.”

If you have any preferences at all about who takes office, you should.

If you care about living in a democracy, you should.

If you want other countries to have respect for our government, you should.

If you want to set an example for others, including youth, you should.

If the US is the country where you really want to live, you should.

If you want to feel smug when the candidate of your choosing wins, you should.

If you want the free snacks they set out, and a cool little sticker, you should.

If you want anyone to take anything you say about politics seriously, you should.

From someone who isn’t from America:

In some countries you don’t get to choose who rules over you. You get shot for voicing your opinion. You can only pray your next leader isn’t an idiot or a tyrant.

And in the past the kings and queens were destined to be who they were. You couldn’t argue about it because it was “God’s plan”.

So you should feel blessed for at least being given a choice.

@Jaxk . I know that you and I, don’t get along. But I found your response insightful. If you are in CA, and I assume you vote red, why do you even bother?

I don’t vote. Out of protest, of the system. In the end, it usually comes down to two candidates .
In other words, the choice of the lesser of two evils. Voting in one, or the other, simply validates one of the two. If there was no EC, I probably would vote. Can you explain why you vote, when/if you don’t like either candidate, and your state will ultimately determine which candidate will win, despite your vote?

^^Probably because all votes get counted. That final tally is still the best way to inform others in that State who have the same political and moral views as you that they are not alone.

Whether booming or weak they have a voice.

What happens next in the succeeding elections incrementally informs everyone whether that precious unified voice is growing stronger or weaker.

Some would do something about it, more than just voting while some would choose to simply wait and see.

If everyone who didn’t vote, voted, I do not believe trump would be in office now.

@MrGrimm888 – I find that most democrats feel the way you do. That is to say they feel they’re voting for the lesser of two evils (not trying to start an argument, just the way I see it). I don’t feel that way. I vote for the better of the two. Yeah, they may not be perfect but both sides have their good points. I believe that eventually, the general population (even in a state like California) will realize they are destroying a once prosperous economy. If I can convince a few to see it, more will come. It doesn’t cost me anything and it actually gives me a sense of satisfaction.

As for the EC, the framers set up an excellent system of governance. The EC works exactly the same as the House and Senate. The states should have a voice even if they are small. The EC gives them that.

Your arguments so far are to base your vote on the color of their skin and/or your emotions (ie.don’t use your brain). I don’t operate that way.

If it’s up to the majority popular vote there will be more Democratic Presidents in the WH. So I understand why Dems believe the EC must be scrapped.

But —— personally I’m not sure that’s the right thing to do. Because what if —— there comes a time when another popular and evil Republican Presidential candidate like trump is the one who gets the majority popular vote? What if the simple majority vote went for a tyrant?

I agree with some jellies here when they stated that Dems need to improve their game on winning Presidential elections. Imo, getting rid of the EC might be too dangerous for the future of America.

I’m not a Democrat, although I am anti-republican. I guess, I would classify myself, as independent. But I find almost all politicians abhorrent. So… I usually don’t like any of the candidates. If voting were mandatory, I’d probably write in John Stewart, or something. Which, would still be a waste of a vote…

The system basically forces American voters, to legitimize, one of two people. That’s not a democracy, to me…

Right now, I do like E. Warren, but I don’t think I would vote for her either. Perhaps I am too picky, or stupid. The only solution to the current system, to me, would to be drafting a POTUS. Or the candidates. Pick the smartest, most honest people, and force them to be a candidate. I don’t like that option either. But, it would keep out the typical scum… I don’t know why ANYONE, would WANT to be POTUS. Trump seems to be clearly running for reelection. Yet he cries, ALL THE TIME, about how he perceives his treatment. If I were him, I’d just quit. Does he think that he will not be picked apart, if he wins in 2020? Unlikely… If he truly feels like such a victim of conspiracy, why not just walk away. He’ll still be a wealthy, business man. But he won’t be under a microscope, and in danger of facing dozens of legal charges….
The crown, is indeed heavy. Why not just take it off?
