The Palmer House, unquestionably.

Palmer House Hilton
17 E Monroe St
Chicago, IL 60603

(312) 726–7500

My second choice would be any of the Windy City locations for “The Restaurant No One Can Pronounce,” Ruth’s Chris.

Those places are legendary for steaks, but they are known to serve awesome seafood dishes, which is why I mention them.

Both of JackAdams answers are fantastic choices. I’ve also enjoyed meals at:
The Berghoff
It is the defacto in Chicago dining. It’s not it’s heyday style, but it’s still the Berghoff and it’s still wonderful. It’s on Adams street down from the Metra.
Elephant & Castle Pub
It’s also down Adams street from the Metra.
For a different experience there’s Ed Debevic’s It’s definitely something you should be prepared for. They’re rude to you on purpose and make fun of you. It’s amusing and enjoyable. They keep it clean and don’t go overboard, so it’s good fun.
If you want high class and a staple in chi-town there’s always the 95th Floor at the Hancock building. Cheesecake factory is on the first floor of the Hancock so they can do dinner on the 95th and then dessert at Cheescake.

Hope these help. =)

@tWrex: Your answers are terrific, too! I concur!

There really is no such thing as a “bad” restaurant, in all of Chicago.

I really like the grand lux cafe, I think it’s owned by the same people that own cheesecake factory and less busy.
