All the time.
I’ve been to a few lectures given by Mark Welton. He lives where I live. He was a JAG lawyer and professor at West Point. He’s done a few discussion on the Middle East and Constitutional Law. https://www.westpoint.edu/law/profile/mark_welton It’s usually in a room of about 12 to 18 tables (4 to a table). We all get to ask questions and discuss.
The husband of a close friend of mine worked for a prison in New Jersey. He started an agricultural project that was very successful. The prisoners farmed the land and they had tilapia tanks also. He basically created the whole thing and I guess the state supported the idea.
I’ve met people who worked for the CIA, one gave a presentation of slides of the CIA museum and had stories to tell about the items.
A retired lawyer here has taught me a ton about Supreme Court decisions and the law.
I live in a retirement community. People all around me with a lifetime of experiences and careers. Careers are usually something we discover about each other after the fact. We get to know each other doing fun activities and it’s crazy when you find out the Zumba teacher used to be a university professor, or the guy working at the rec center plays guitar and played and traveled with a couple of very famous rock bands. He performs with a group here where I live too.
One guy I know from zumba, also loves to polka, and he started doing glass fusion crafts, and he and his wife go to lots of parties and post fun photos of their grandkids. Turns out he is an engineering, I had no idea. He helped build some famous buildings in the country. He still does work testifying as an expert witness.
