Why didn't the movie studio make a real Pokemon movie based on the original cartoon?

Sometimes life doesnt make sense to me.. :( I had this question for some time now.. So the movie “Detective Pikatchu” based on a weird made up story : ” In a world where people collect Pokémon to do battle, a boy comes across an intelligent talking Pikachu who seeks to be a detective.” * https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5884052/?ref_=nv_sr_2?ref_=nv_sr_2

I am not a huge Pokemon fan but I think that this is totally blasphemous to the hardcore Pokemon fan base.
Why didnt they just follow the original base story of the cartoon with all the original characters (and have it directed by someone thats actually reputable like Peter Jackson).
This whole thing reminds me of yet another repeated blasphemy and that is “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” which i will never ever watch.

They probably thought that no one would see it, because everyone has already seen that story.
Plus, try finding good child actors.
And then you end up with a film starring children, with an audience consisting mostly of people in their late 20s and 30s.

They calculated based on profitability factors. Curious if they got their money back and more which if that’s the case vindicates the producers.

I also heard that the Dragonball movie was a flop too. I haven’t watched either.

Into the Spider-Verse is the second best Spider-Man movie ever made in my opinion, only behind Spider-Man 2. You’re missing out. Plus, it’s based off of pre-existing comic book material, so I don’t know why you consider it to be blasphemous.

As for Pokémon though, I completely agree with you. The original characters are really likable, so it’s strange that they would center a Pokémon film around a human character no one has any interest in. Also, I feel like an ensemble cast would have benefited the movie.
