My daughter is middle-school age and us moms were just talking about how it’s hard to get them gifts because not only is this a tough age to buy gifts for but these kids get stuff all year long. Phones, clothes, if they need anything they get it any time of the year. My daughter wanted to see Aladdin so last night we both went. That was about 300 + for the two tickets, plus train ride to the city (NYC), which was 60 dollars round trip for two. She asked me for Uggs the other day so I ordered a pair on Costco.com. That was 150, which is probably a bargain. Usually I have been buying her the Costco generic sheepskin boots which are about 30 but I didn’t see them this year. If we’re in the store and she asks for some clothes, I get them. If I am in the store by myself and I see clothes she needs, or online, I get them. Some clothes I bought her recently on Costco.com I will save for Christmas, and I will wrap the Uggs up and give them to her early and tell her they’re a Christmas gift. I will probably get her a few other things. I’m not sure what.
I have a small family and a few friends that I exchange gifts with. I really don’t need anything but a few of my friends insist on giving gifts and so I have to get them something in return. One of my friends, when I asked her last year if she still wanted to exchange gifts, told me she really looks forward to our exchanging. I take that to mean I am kind of stuck doing it, but I really don’t need anything and if I do, I buy it for myself. I have so many clothes I am trying to get rid of them, and I have so much jewelry that I don’t buy any more. I need a new handbag but I wouldn’t ask someone to get it as I want certain things and so it’s a personal decision.
Other than that, I have maybe some teachers if my daughter wants to give to them, plus maybe some of her friends. I have to ask her to make a list because the Christmas shopping season is short this year and so we have to start thinking about it.
