Do you have stink bugs where you live?

“Great Question” (1points)

Recently, I was surprised to learn that the brown marmorated stink bug is an insect that is not native to North America. In fact, the first documented sighting was in 1998 (in Pennsylvania).

These things are so common, I had convinced myself that they had always been here in Massachusetts. They’re everywhere. They are here in my house (found one an hour ago).

Do you have these where you live, and did you know they were only recently introduced to North America?

Yes. It’s hard to believe something that small can smell that bad.
I believe I read something about them only being recently introduced in North America but it seems like I remember them from a long time ago.

I love Wikipedia, but the info there is NOT always reliable!!! I live in Georgia & we’ve had stink bugs since I was a small child. Believe me when I say that I was NOT a small child in 1998!!! It’s only been in the last 3 or 4 years that we’ve had an epidemic of the little bastards. One of my neighbors couldn’t see out her front window due to the number of the stinkers hanging onto her screen & that was probably 3 years back. I could be wrong, but it seems that I remember having stink bugs back in the late 1950’s or early 60’s. My brother & I were NOT allowed to squish them due to the odor they emitted while being squished!!! I know for a fact that we had them before 1969.

To give the author the respect that they deserve, the stink bugs that we had might not have been the ” brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys)” & may have been a different family member. They were still called a stink bug!!!

No & I’d know if we did.
I used to be a wine taster, not employed as such, just kind of a hobby.

So I’m sure these putrid smelling bugs would set my nostrils flapping if they were around.
