Since gay conversion "therapy" (gay to straight) is a thing, should there not also be gay conversion therapy (straight to gay), just to balance things out?

“Great Question” (5points)

What religion would be best to umbrella this under, so you could make your practice tax exempt?

Maybe as an item in a satire show it could be fun.
For the rest I find it as ridiculous as the former.

Interesting question, since many religions take issue with the LGBTQ issues in part or whole.

Probably Unity Church.

Wiki——-
Unity, known informally as Unity Church, is a New Thought spiritual movement that has no dogma.[1]

Unity was founded in Kansas City, Missouri by Myrtle and Charles Fillmore. Unity brings together common teachings of the world’s religions to find teachings of Truth. Unity is an affirming, welcoming organization with local centers across the world. It has been described as a “positive, practical Christianity”, although its teachings have been influenced by many of the world’s religions.

Stop the world I want to get off!

@ucme
You will need to hold a referendum for that, followed by 5 years of negotiation.

ucme's avatar

@ragingloli No, we have staff for that!

I like this idea. I can think of many straight men I would like to have a chance at. It won’t need the cover of religion, since it will be about the science of mind.

No

josie's avatar

Did I say no?

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

Hmm. What does it say that some straight men are quick to answer in the negative here? Specifically, what does it say about sexual orientation?

josie's avatar

Which ones are straight?

LadyMarissa's avatar

WHY can’t everybody be left alone so they can be themselves???

@josie wink wink

I just want to state theres nothing any of us would find funny about conversion camps. I’ve heard horror stories about demons cast out, strapping down, complete mental breaks up to suicide.

A success story to some of those churches, is deeply sad in another way,.

We, at the Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence, know that either way you’re coming with us.

Most men would be repulsed at the idea of having sexual relations with a man.

Darth_Algar's avatar

It already exists and consists of a regimen of listening to Bette Midler and watching Golden Girls reruns.

Darth_Algar's avatar

@Yellowdog

Most men already insecure in their sexuality perhaps.

I’m picturing something like the Ludovico technique, eyes taped open, forced to watch performances of Broadway musicals.

But seriously, I never managed to turn anyone homo, but I’ve been surprised by some of the people who consider themselves “bi-curious” that I never would’ve suspected (especially in college). I would certainly respect the boundaries of people I knew to be straight, but I can’t say the same for horny drunk straight girls at bars and parties. They don’t want to give up. :P

Sidebar…the father of gay conversion therapy is also the father of ABA.

Ivar Lovaas would put autistic children into rooms laced with metallic strips and shock them if they didn’t comply.

Great guy

Pinguidchance's avatar

It’s clearly not normal to be straight, if it were homosexuality wouldn’t flourish with such congenial abandon.

Imagine the comeuppance of the horny, drunk, straight girls that hit on Demosthenes at bars and parties.

Demosthenes's avatar

It ain’t easy bein’ straight. So much unattainable gay tail.

The concept is sadistic. Who would advocate a “therapy” which if successful guarantees the subject a lifetime of rejection and persecution.

Gay conversion, for women already exists. X amount of alcoholic beverages = y amount of lesbian behavior. All females, are bisexual.
And it makes sense, evolutionary speaking. For thousands of years, the men would leave the tribe for days- months, to hunt. The females need affection. They helped each other out. Historically, males have not been kind, to females. So. Some probably got tired, of dealing with men.
Although, I recently heard a segment on lesbian, domestic violence. This had not occurred to me. But makes sense. I knew it existed, in the male homosexual relationships. But, I didn’t think about/hadn’t observed it in lesbian relationships…

Perhaps a lobotomy would work quicker and more complete.

MrGrimm888's avatar

I have to say. It would entertain me, to no end, to see people who are anti-homosexual, turned into homosexuals. I suspect that many already have gay thoughts. And hate that, about themselves. So. The misdirect that anger, at the homosexual community…
I’ve heard from multiple ex/current military guys from tours in the ME, that homosexual sex, between men, is common. But those same men, will kill an outwardly gay man, for being gay…

LadyMarissa's avatar

How do you know you don’t like it IF you’ve never tried it to see how it feels???

MrGrimm888's avatar

I’m just not attracted to other males. The thought of kissing another man, repulses me.
But, I don’t judge others, for their sexual orientation.
I think that homosexuals, should have the same rights, as everyone else…

I think Juvenile Court should mandate Gay Conversion Therapy for male Juvenile offenders who are incarcerated or detained in Juvenile detention centers. It would be adequate punishment for those who can’t be given adult sentences, and it would help those truly gay to better understand themselves. It would aid in the understanding of those of different sexual orientations while the inmates are still young and open minded.

MrGrimm888's avatar

I don’t think that would make a difference. I think people are born with their sexuality, and you can’t talk someone out of it…
