I have become an author selling online with B&N(Barnes-and-Noble). I’ve written 4 books so far. My first book is my true story of sexual abuse by multiple kinsmen. Writing it has benefited me emotionally and I have no regrets. I’ve changed the names of characters which makes it fiction based on real life events. But the basis of it is detailed and very true.

That’s not my specific reading interest, so I wouldn’t think to pick it up. But I imagine there is an audience for it, and if writing is cathartic for you, so be it.

When it can be determined before hand that is is about incest, then readers opposing the subject can avoid.

I’ve read a fair bit about it. I come from a culture of incest abuse that goes back through multiple generations, and on both sides of my family (polygamy). If you were to point this toward the mental health field, or perhaps there are support groups that would benefit from buying/reading it, you might do better.

Nobody really opposes to true incest story. In fact, you’re more than welcomed to share your experience. What people are really opposed to is how the story is told. People want to see a genuine story that would empower the victims of similar tragedy. If you are writing this with a genuine heart, I’m sure you will get a lot of support from your reader.

That said, I don’t know much about B&N, but is it possible to show us a preview of your book? Your book on B&N which is pretty much the only place people can buy the book btw is sold for $29.99 for 444 pages of paperback, so a lot of us would like to know if this is a good book to buy.

As a survivor, I wouldn’t be interested. I know my truth and yours will probably vary widely. Still, if writing is your passion, I say go for it. Just because I wouldn’t buy it, that doesn’t mean a million other people won’t just love it

Flowers in the Attic sold well and got a movie.

Some may find it uncomfortable or taboo since it’s based on true life. Crimes against children are hard to take in since we’re bombarded with it daily.

Flowers in the Attic was a work of fiction so the author could make it any color she wanted. She wrote it to appeal to the masses. It was also about a brother and sister, roughly the same age, kind of like Blue Lagoon.
It just isn’t comparable to a 50 year old man molesting and hurting his own small children, or grand children or other small relatives.
