Had anyone viewed the winning movie yet, titled “Parasite”?
Here is the link to the video preview..( English subtitles).

The Oscars make me grouchy. (subtle pun).

I didn’t watch a second of the show. Self congratulatory inside-baseball bullshit with no relevance to anything in my life.

I saw Parasite and walked out before the end. I disliked it intensely which is not to say it’s a bad movie. I’m not sure it deserved all four Oscars it got though.

@janbb
It was original.

I didn’t think anything last night, didn’t know the winners until this morning.
Glad Phoenix & Pitt won, although predictable, they were fine performances in great movies.

Was that last night?

I didn’t tune in.

I watched the whole telecast (although I did dishes during Eminem doing his best winner form 2003’s oscars).

And yes, I saw Parasite. At the end of it, I said (and my girlfriend agreed, “that’s the best picture of the last year.”

The Joker/Joaquin Phoenix stuff was too much for me, not that good of a movie to begin with.

I just discovered that the “Joker” is NOT a story of the comic book character but of a result of a childhood trauma that changed the subjects personality.
I never knew from just watching the previews on TV.

Guessing I’m getting too old for the Oscars that I used to like. It turns me off that they increased the number of Best Pic nominees from 5 to 10. Nominating Black Panther as Best Pic nominee is just pandering.

I applaud and love the effort to diversify and promote equality in the movie industry but I just have a different opinion on the cinematic qualities a Best Pic nominee and winner should have. The Shape of Water, an undeniably underwhelming piece of film got a Best Pic award. What the heck?

And now another questionable move including a foreign language film in the main category. I heard this happened before but I always assumed there is a separate foreign language category. So what makes Parasite different? How is this “fair” to other foreign films nominated in their category in the years past? The film “Departure” from Japan could easily have won Best Pic in the main category and not just the foreign language one.

Because I saw Parasite and imo it was nothing special nor amazing enough to win Best Pic. I even feel that all this accolade seem insulting to the Parasite filmmakers. The Oscars know it wasn’t that amazing but it didn’t suck either but they needed to pander again and showcase diversity. I won’t be surprised that even the Parasite director himself thinks his film doesn’t deserve to win.

To be fair though, mine is only one opinion. If I’m not mistaken, Oscar members vote and majority pick wins the award. Parasite may have connected and transcended something profound with these members who voted for Parasite. Cinematic taste is so subjective.

@mazingerz88 I don’t really get all the excitement about Parasite either. I thought it was well made but should have only been nominated/won in one or the other category. Speaking just personally, I found Almadovar’s Pain and Glory a much deeper and more beautiful film.

^^Agree. See, Pain and Glory is one film which deserves to be in that line up. Same as last year when they snubbed that space movie with Ryan Gosling. Lol That film was just excellent without a doubt.

I’m not naive to think the Oscars which claims to be an “academy”....doesn’t have corrupt and commercial elements ingrained into it but some of their decisions these days just come across as desperate acts in order to survive and stay relevant.

Almodovar’s Pain and Glory is a brilliant cinematic exercise in telling a simple and maybe even familiar tale….in a way that may feel counterintuitive in the hands of another filmmaker. Almodovar told his tale in the most simple way he could do it. And it was great cinema! Lol That ending was awesome. That was a cinematic wink to his fans.

@mazingerz88 I found the Parasite thing extremely hilarious. Have people forgotten that there was at least one Asian work that won the Oscar back in the day?

I seem to notice a trend in cinema events, not just the Oscar alone. People are gearing toward movies that showcase culture that not many people have heard about before. So in a way it’s more like a cultural exchange than an actual competition. I haven’t seen Parasite but judging by what I saw on TV it looks like it’s another “cultural exchange”.

As for the show itself, I missed a lot of it but I thought Billy Eilish was great singing “Yesterday.”

I was glad Renee Zellweiger won for “Judy.” I thought that movie was fascinating. As for other winners, I can only comment on what movies I’ve seen. I liked “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “Judy,” Ford vs. Ferrari,” have yet to see “Parasite” and “Marriage Story.” Not sure if I want to see “Joker.” I thought “The Irishman” was great, too.

The short film winner “Hair Love” is great and if you can catch it online, please watch it. It’s only about five minutes long. Very sweet.
