Why do performers with dyed blonde hair let their dark roots show?

“Great Question” (4points)

I understand that ordinary people don’t always have time to touch up their roots. However, there are some television and movie stars I see with very obvious dark roots showing. I don’t think it’s attractive.

Am I missing something here? Is this a “look”?

(This is a totally fluff question so have at it.)

They don’t care enough to bother? Or maybe they want to grow their natural color out. I dunno, but I don’t envy you gals.

Do you mean just an inch? Or, do you mean 6 inches or more? It became fashionable to do dark on top with highlights and even solid blonde at the bottom. It’s a way to add extensions without having to dye hair to match, but some people dye their real hair that way.

I think you will find that they are natural blondes who are captivated by the phenomenon of the dark roots, and asked their hairdressers to blacken their hair an inch, starting from their scalps.

@stanleybmanly It means the director doesn’t care which means it’s intentional.

@JLeslie Kind of a ragged amount, not 6 inches.

@rebbel Doesn’t look that way.

I’m thinking particularly right now about the two daughters on “Grace and Frankie.” Very noticeable on them.

Deciding that dark roots are an intentional choice is easier than maintaining dyed roots. Dyed hair became just another look rather than an attempt to fool anybody.

That’s what I have long thought. I think it took off with punk and New Wave styles.

Here’s a YouTube where you can see what I mean. (Spoiler alert: There’s some dirty language in it.)

I think it’s a fashion statement.

@Dutchess. I guess it must be.

Probably because it’s extremely damaging to bleach your hair every 3 weeks (depending on how fast your hair grows). It’s also a pain in the ass.

Hollywood has lost its sparkle. Stars want the money, but no longer care about the pretense of glamour.

^^ Perhaps but again, the directors must go along with it. I guess as Dutch says, maybe it’s a fashion.
