Pangolins. They’re weird looking. And they are in the news because of the coronavirus.

wikipedia

And manatees – ugly but with personality link

Inspired_2write's avatar

Dragonfly

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@elbanditoroso -They are interesting. I did not know that there are eight species.
Manatees are cool.
Both would be good subjects for an endangered species art show

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Inspired_2write -Done! :)
I like painting them. grasshoppers too. They are beautiful when they open their wings.

rebbel's avatar

Platypus.

Dutchess_III's avatar

This doggie. The little girl too!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@rebbel -Will it pose for me?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Dutchess_III -No people allowed in this show.

LadyMarissa's avatar

I’m partial to kittens, puppies, or maybe a baby bunny rabbit…Or maybe all 3 playing together. Babies hold NO prejudices!!!

Dutchess_III's avatar

So don’t paint her in. Just the dog @lucillelucillelucille.

Zaku's avatar

I think all animals are good subjects for paintings.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Zaku – I don’t disagree with you. :)
I wonder what appeals to most people?

chyna's avatar

Lady bugs are pretty cool!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@chyna -They are! I have seen some beautiful photos of them. Snails too.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille To add to rebbel’s idea, obviously you can’t use this exact one, but it might give you inspiration.

These 2 are posing perfectly!!!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@janbb -Lol! I think it’s a dance craze among spiders!
That arms in the air posturing is what my hub said that Brazilian Wandering Spider that he brought home in a bunch of bananas was doing.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@LadyMarissa -Awww! They look squishy! :)

chyna's avatar

@janbb oh my gosh! That was absolutely cute!

janbb's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille A former Jelly from Australia turned me on to peacock spiders. They are amazing even when not doing disco dancing.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@janbb -They freak me out, yet are fascinating!

chyna's avatar

Snow leopards are pretty too. Especially the baby ones.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@chyna -They are so beautiful! I need to get to the zoo for reference photos soon!

ragingloli's avatar

A dead ant with a cordiceps fungus growing from its head.

johnpowell's avatar

Fluther user Dog did a painting of my (now deceased) cat about a decade ago. It was payment for building a computer for her.

It might look like a bunch of random stuff but each element has a significance.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@johnpowell -That is lovely! I remember Dog as being very talented too :)

I love paintings that have personal elements to them.

Brian1946's avatar

I can only imagine the chromatic latitudes one would have, if their subject was a chameleon.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Brian1946 They would be interesting to paint!

ucme's avatar

Otters
They are adorable, photogenic & yes…I want one!

ragingloli's avatar

Especially in lingerie.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme -They’re my favorite. Twice I got them to play with me at the zoo. Here’s a not so great photo of one of the times.Cutest things ever!
I saw one in the wild too (river otter) not very close though.
@raginloli- XD

ucme's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille Cute water sausages they are.

ragingloli's avatar

How about a frisky cat

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme -The next time you get to a zoo, try to get one to interact.
The first time, my hub bought me a stuffed otter toy because I’m a grown woman and require that
I put it against the glass and he swam after it, multiple times. That was a very cool experience!
The second time (in the pic) I think it was either attracted to the color in the skirt or the movement of it. Idk how well they see color.
Anyway, give it a try!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ragingloli -Lol! I made a dalmation bra for a breast cancer benefit that was worn by a fireman.Same idea, different media.

ucme's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille Be sure to mrs.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme -Be sure to take photos!
Meanwhile be charmed!

blow fish

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Sagacious – Made of clay would be cool! For both :)

You could paint snails, but these come with their own DIY paint job already done.

Squirrels seem like they would easy, but they are a fabulous assemblage of curves and textures. There is the smooth, slicked back hair that looks of Brille Creme but is natural. The tail has the fluffy look of well spaced long hairs that look like squirrel rubbed his feet on a carpet. When sun hits just right, the tail is illuminated in an almost ethereal way.
Eyes that look glassy, and sharp pointy claws on fleshy little hand paws. Squirrels are a great little collection of creative delights.

By now, everyone knows my favorite insect.

LostInParadise's avatar

Locusts – they look menacing yet interesting

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Patty_Melt -I’ve painted those snails before on the outside of a large bowl before.
A booth neighbor who was a silversmith/jeweler at an art fair wanted it, so I traded her that for some of her work. :)
I do have some photos of squirrels to work from….
As for the praying mantis, they are a trip! I saw a video on youtube of one waiting on a hummingbird feeder to prey on the birds. I couldn’t believe it!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@LostInParadise -They are interesting.

Patty_Melt's avatar

If you do a spider, do it from the view of prey, facing the spider in the final moment.

A mantis from that view would also be cool. I would buy a 6’ X 8’ of that, if I could afford it.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Patty_Melt -That would almost guarantee a nightmare for me.lol That stuff really gets to me.
I once saw a grasshopper caught in a spider’s web, struggling away as the spider approached it. I remember the detail vividly. This was probably 20 years ago.

Zaku's avatar

I’m partial to (and particularly visually interested in) big cats, orangutans, wolves, gorillas, and dragons.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Zaku -All very striking animals.Komodo dragons?

Patty_Melt's avatar

Gorillas, for sure. I had a silverback at Omaha zoo that sometimes when he saw me approaching in my wheelchair would sit with me on the other side of the glass. We didn’t sit facing each other. That is gorilla rudeness to authority. We would sit side by side. He kept me in his periphery while he would pick apart the fibers on a stem, or slow nibble leaves. He was a sweetie, but he is also the one you see crashing against the glass on YT.
Turning your back to a silverback is deeply inappropriate.
He loved babies. When lots of little ones would be there he would want to see them as much as they wanted to see him. To him, all zoo visitors were part of his social group.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Patty_Melt -That is very cool!

Dutchess_III's avatar

When I was dating Jerry we went to the zoo once. The Silverback challenged him…with his dick all hanging out. He was banging on the glass and on his chest and It was so freaking embarrassing.

Zaku's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille I like (some) fanstastic dragons, and interesting real-world that remind me of them. Komodo dragons are interesting, but not my favorite. Here are some examples:

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Zaku The second chameleon has an almost human expression and the gargoyle dragon is spectacular!

Patty_Melt's avatar

I saw something on tv this morning that you should try. Paint a giant butterfly with this little girl riding on its back. The video has prompted various artists to draw and paint her.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Patty_Melt -Awww! Do you have a link to any of the artwork she inspired?

Patty_Melt's avatar

I saw it on CBS during their early news. I could give a try to see if I can find something.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Patty_Melt -You don’t have to go on a search mission for me. I just wondered if you had a link.
