If you order seeds online (for your personal flower and/or veggie gardens), who is your favorite supplier?

“Great Question” (4points)

I have some of my seeds already, but there are some things I usually buy as starts from small, local nurseries. Since we don’t know if doing that will be an option this year, I am looking into buying seeds online. Any reviews you can give me on places that supply (preferably) heirloom seeds by mail (online) order?
Thanks

I recently bought dahlia seeds from Swallowtail Gardens but I will buy them at a garden center or grocery store when I see them.
I have also ordered seeds from this place.—I think they were Black Russian tomato seeds and the tomatoes looked revolting but were delicious.
What do you grow?

Hah! Baker Creek is my first stop, I am looking at them very seriously!
I like to grow veg and herbs. I have a couple of raised beds and a bunch of containers. I need to order some peppers and tomatoes, I already have have beans and peas and carrots and beets. I may add Black Russians to the cart!

@canidmajor – I have to dismantle my raised bed this year and just tuck veggies in pots or places where they won’t get mowed down.
I’ll be starting my dahlias this weekend but am looking for seeds for this plant.
FYI-Amazon is not the most reliable place.
Did you see this?

No link, you put an apostrophe instead of quote after “this”

@canidmajor -Is it working for you now?
I tried to grow a Coast Redwood for my sister but failed.
She was looking to plant a small pine tree for her front yard. XD

Thank you, yes it works now! I love a black tomato!
Ha! Super treehouse for your sister!

@canidmajor -Do you grow herbs inside?

I keep meaning to, @lucillelucillelucille and can’t seem to make a decent go of it. I have a Penzey’s Spices not too far from me, so I have a boatload of quality dried stuff, but I do love the fresh in the summer!

And the Gardening Gods have apparently overheard me talking about hating squash, because I can’t grow zucchini or pumpkin. I get beautiful blossoms, but that’s it, they never fruit. I think I’m the only person in the world who can’t grow zucchini.

I don’t love to cook but grow basil, oregano, rosemary and bay leaf. My husband uses them though.:)
I have an oregano plant in a pot on an enclosed porch and it will not die. It gets cold out there too.
My friend had that problem with zucchini as well.
Here are some reasons why.
I have trouble with cucumbers.Cantelope too.

That looks like good info, @lucillelucillelucille, I’ll monitor the conditions! Thanks.

@canidmajor I hate to enable but chocolate zucchini bread is really good.
I have made that before and have a slice of guilt with coffee in the morning.:D

Comstock Ferre they also handle Baker Creek. We use to buy seeds and produce there 50 to 60 years ago.

@Tropical_Willie -Nice! my friend thanks you in advance

@canidmajor, I had issues with growing pumpkins too.
I would get these long vines, pretty blossoms, no fruit. I found help on YT. It explains pumpkin sex, and good growing conditions.
It turned out I didn’t plant enough vines to ensure female blossoms. I had only male blossoms. After that experience, my daughter refused to help sexing them, and I couldn’t count on how much I could do any given day, so my gardening had to stop.
Good luck. Plant enough vines to ensure productive mating.

You’re welcome. @lucillelucillelucille They changed owners several times since I started going there.

@Tropical_Willie -It looks like a very nice place.

Well, Baker Creek seems to be the ticket! Everybody’s experiencing delays, so I’m ordering from them. Can’t wait! Thanks for the input, all!

Veseys Bulbs
www.veseys.com
They have a Fundraising program for groups where that group can earn 50% profits on everything they sell.
The Alpine Seniors Society does this every year using that strategy and has successful outcomes.
I like it because they sell indoor plants( seeds/bulbs/cuttings) as well.
I like receiving there free catalog every year or season.

Got my seeds today (yay!) with a packet of free dill seeds. Guess I’m adding dill to the herb garden this season. :-)
