Cats love fish, but can you come up with any examples of them fishing in the wild?

“Great Question” (2points)

Seeing that they will usually go to great lengths to avoid getting wet (tigers and jaguars being the odd exceptions). Yet I’ve never heard of either of them bothering to stalk or procure fish.

There is a breed called a Turkish Van that likes to swim.
My husband grew up on a lake. There was a semi-feral cat that used to swim across the lake to a small island to hunt every day.
My two cats have been boating before but no fishing

I stand corrected. Thank you both!

It was a good question.

I saw a documentary showing wolves fishing near the shores of northern British Columbia: they learned it from watching the bears.

I think cats would fish more, if they had more access to fishing spots. And people would more often see the cats who do have fishing spots, using those spots, if the people hung around those fishing spots. ;-)

Growing up, I had a fish tank, and a cat. We put a strainer over the fish tank to stop the cat trying to fish.

Our cat stayed with a friend who had a small koi pond in the backyard. One day he walked into the yard to find the cat poised over the edge of the pond, paw ready, then struck at a fish that was near, spear it with claws and pull it out.

Cats like milk but you don’t see adult cats stalk and procure milk in the wild. If it’s available then they take advantage.

Cow’s milk makes cats really sick.

You can’t hunt milk @gondwanalon.

It’s difficult to go fishing when you’re locked inside a house!!! In my many years of having cats, I’ve only ever had one that loved the water. Every morning when I took my shower, he came running & jumped in the tub with me. He made sure that he was under the warm stream of water coming out of the shower head. Here is proof that some outdoor cats do love to fish

@Dutchess_lll None of my cats have gotten sick from drinking cow’s milk. But it doesn’t matter if cow’s milk makes them sick or not. They’ll still drink it.

Cats like to eat cow’s meat also but you don’t see domestic cats stalk and procure cows in the wild. But like fish and cow’s milk if it’s available then they will take advantage.

I had a cat that begged for her milk every day and I mean in your face begging. She lived to the ripe old age of 24

It has always given my cats diarrhea.

Yeah I do agree @Dutchess_lll while cats may like milk and cream it isn’t the best for them.
