I am ok without a lot of meat. In a pinch, if I were really wanting it, I could get a dinner at Outback for about $15 for 6 oz piece of steak with two sides, which is good enough for me. I could do a $2 burger at McD’s if I wanted to go the cheaper route.
As for my daughter, who is on the verge of becoming a teen, she likes steak. For her, I’d pay $6 a pound or maybe a little more. I’d cut a piece off hers and take it for myself. That’s what I often do now. I’ll give her a pork chop and I’ll cut off about a third and I’m ok (with sides dishes, too).
I get pork chops a lot, because they’re cheap – less than 2 dollars per pound. I recently bought a lot of pork chops at the supermarket and chop meat at Costco, so I have a pretty good supply right now, in the freezer, individually portioned and wrapped up. Dinner tonight was a small amount of hamburger meat, stir fried with rice and veggies. Probably a half pound of hamburger meat or less and it was stretched with the rice and veggies.
If meat prices got really crazy, I’d just have to tell my daughter that we have to cut it out except for now and then.
