Is the state of Alabama still relevant? I would think so. While not a fan, and I have been there a few times, it is a state filled with humans that have beliefs that they support. We may not agree with them, but that is the way that it is, for the majority. Let’s hope that one day, the thought process of Alabamian residents will shift to doing what is right for the country.

From my perspective this statement is true in nearly every congressional district across the USA. There are only a handful of politicians that I respect and admire.

I think there are a lot of people in Alabama (like in many other states) who are truly good, hard-working, honest, and stupid. Sadly, they don’t understand just how stupid they actually are (a big clue is that they refer to “common sense” a whole lot).

The same reason most states and districts elect the worst candidates. Because most politicians are among the worst people in the society.

Anyway, what’s wrong with Alabama? I can think of plenty of worse states in the Union.

The middle and south rarely seem to matter to many people here, but after 2016, I’d think it would be much more important to TRY to understand leading up to this election. It’s basically been a Republican state without challenge since 1980.

Like @gorillapaws said, there are many good, hardworking people in this country. Even California and New York, I hear! haha!

@KNOWITALL I’m aware of all that – after all, I live one state to the east, and have been to and through Alabama dozens of times.

But for all the brilliant scientists at Huntsville, there are still all sorts of neanderthals elsewhere in the state who vote republican.

Alabama does matter, if only as this country’s model for systemic governmental dysfunction and rampant corruption. But the state is merely the drum major in definition of our alarming era overall. America— Trump as President, a raging out of control pandemic, slack jaw backwater politics defining a place notable for all those achievements on @KNOWITALL ‘s list. It’s impossible to witness all of this and not conclude the actual pandemic in our country is in the massive vacuum in our stockpile of critical thinking. Seriously folks. We are collectively a nation of dimwits, and we should see it for what it is. It’s actually a fascinating topic that drives you to the question: have we always been this stupid? I mean there will always be glaring flaws to any era, but the magnitude of cognitive dysfunction distinguishing this stage of our existence scares the shit out of me.

@stanley Is there a state you feel is a glowing example for Dem and Rep states alike that comes to mind? I actually agree with most of your post, except this did not start with the current President, for me.
