Suppose for the sake of this question that a cure to Coronavirus is found - and it is cannabis, full strength. It's still illegal at the federal level. What would the FDA do?

To the best of my knowledge, cannabis is not a cure for COVD-19.

But suppose it were. Although cannabis is legal in one way or another in 40+ states (either medical or recreational), it still is considered a drug by the DEA and other federal agencies.

Suppose it were found to cure or prevent COVID-19. What would the feds do? Legalize it? Prevent it from being sold?

Take years to do trials and tests ,then see what would be the best way for big Parma to max profits on it.

I agree with @SQEEKY2, and that goes for whomever is in the WH.

Well….how often would it need to be ingested to cure the virus?

Seriously. If THC cured the virus they’d just extract it.

It wouldn’t be the first crossover between medicinal properties and street use. It’s not new territory. They’d probably do about what they do now with other drugs. And some people would get it for legitimate purposes, and some would abuse it.

If it has been proven to work, then it would be approved for a treatment with a prescription. Doctors prescribe narcotics all the time that are illegal on the street.

It depends on if it could be politicized or not. Let’s say Donald Trump came up one day and said “Hey, I hear that marijuana is a potential cure for the Covid-19 virus.”. Do you really believe any Democrat would openly welcome that news? They would blast it and tell the world how crazy Trump is and how he should listen to experts and they would fight tooth and nail against letting it be legalized.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

No one would take anything trump says seriously. He’s an idiot. Read Caravanfan’s post. It would be up to the medical community, not politicians.

@Dutchess_lll and that is exactly the point. He mentioned Hydroxychloroquine as being a possible treatment and they went nuts. A bogus report was even put out stating it was deadly to humans with Covid-19 and all testing on it stopped and the media and the Dems went even more crazy at Trump. Then, when it came out the report was bogus, the media and the Dems never addressed it. They just continued to push the lie. Now there are areas that are even trying it and it is having some success. The Governor of Minnesota recently lifted his ban on pharmacists filling prescriptions for it. Of course he did it very quietly since he is a Democrat. It was all polititics. So if Trump suggested Marijuana could help cure the disease, do you really believe the result would be anything different?

Would you believe Trump on this subject @seawulf575 ?

seawulf575's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 just like with Hydroxychloroquine, I’d give him enough credit to research it further. And if I had a doctor that rejected it as a cure, I’d ask him for his rationale. I ask questions…that’s who I am. I like to understand things and rarely take things at face value without understanding them. If Trump said marijuana was a cure-all, my first thought would be to question it. Smoking exacerbates the disease and actually makes it easier for the disease to take hold. So if he just said “marijuana” without mentioning how it would be used, I’d question. I’d want to know what it was in the marijuana that helped, how it helped, etc.
Despite all the claims, I don’t blindly believe Trump on anything.

@SQUEEKY2 I’d give it the old college try, I mean it’s my patriotic duty. :D
