See sommelier to start.
Master Sommelier (MS) is an accreditation of the Court of Master Sommeliers.
The actual term “sommelier” is somewhat loose, however. It certainly can mean that one has received some sort of formal wine education, but anyone can be hired for the job. Certification is not required to call oneself a sommelier.
IMHO
The Court of Master Sommelier is a very prestigious institution if one happens to be past the Advanced Sommelier level. The lower levels tend to have a very “service industry” focus.
My education comes from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. I have completed the Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits, and will be continuing on to the two year Diploma certification. Students of the WSET tend to be in the industry but not at the restaurant level: winemakers, importers, distributors. The pinnacle of this organization is the Master of Wine.
Good luck, and enjoy.
