Who besides me thinks koi are really ugly?

Just for a drastic change of pace.

There are plenty of pictures of koi available through Google if you don’t know what they look like.

I’ve been called upon to admire more than one koi pond and have had a hard time choking back my revulsion.

If you think they’re beautiful, that’s fine, but in this question I’m asking who doesn’t think so.

I agree. Ugly.

They are fine.
Now, a Wels on the other hand, hideous.

You don’t like goldfish? Wow.

I will admit that the white koi are not quite as pretty as a rainbow trout.

I wouldn’t say ugly, but I don’t understand the fascination at all. There are so many beautiful fish, and koi are not one of them.

I have seen fish that are more ugly than Koi

I think the colors they have are pretty though. I wouldn’t own a koi fish though.

@SergeantQueen
That one is the result of rapid decompression.
The fish looks normally like this

There’s no need to carp.

I’m curious as to why you find them ugly? I have sought out many koi ponds, on purpose, to photograph these gracefully stunning fish. I find the colors and markings extraordinary.

doyendroll's avatar

Not to be coy but if you show me a coquettish fish then I’ll show you breakfast.

@Kardamom, it’s mostly the bulky, lumpy bodies, that just look like their innards are pushing out their sides; and it’s worse when they’re bigger. I don’t want to look at a creature and have to think about its guts. I also dislike the lurid colors and the completely random markings and their very stupidly fishy facial expressions. I’m just not a fish person, except when we’re talking recipes.

LOL

I was going to ask if you like fish in general. I think if you liked fish but disliked koi specifically…that would be one thing. But it just sounds like maybe you don’t like fish?
