So Ihave been Homeless since about April 1st of this year. For the first couple months I was living in my car. Unfortunately about mid July I wrecked it and out of my stupidity I parked it where my dad works and tried to work on it. Now I didn’t think it would be a big deal because I had parked it where I been parking every night to sleep. Now the state police in my area are worthless punks. Long story short it got towed to a junkyard about a mile away from where my dad works. Me being mentally disabled and not able to advocate for myself the owner, who is already skeever, won’t budge on price to get it out of the junkyard. On the day it got towed, the state cop that called the junkyard told me that he can’t keep me from getting my belongings from the car even if i can pay. I’m on disability and i’ve tried setting up payment plans and everything but he won’t budge and I can’t get anybody to go there with me. My concern is I have a lot of personal info in that car like my Social security card which I desperately need for my current job before I can start working. Is there anyway I can get my belongings without paying. Was the PA State Trooper right when he said he can’t keep me from getting my belongings. The day it was towed I was able to get a few things but I didn’t have the time or resources to get everything. I could care less about most of the stuff I just need my personal sensitive info.

The state trooper said that “he” couldn’t stop you from getting your personal stuff; however, he said nothing about the owner of the tow yard not being able to stop you. Will your dad not be willing to help you to get your stuff?

@SEKA I’ve asked but it’s a process.

You should have the ability to collect some of your belongings.
If you can’t, talk to the police…

@MrGrimm888 I’ve did just about all the talking to the police I can handle. Everyone acts like police are in it to help people, and by all means most of them are but a lot of them especially the State level cops are in it because they get off on authority.

I’ve even said I need this stuff for employment purposes and showed them a list of everything. They aren’t interested in “sparing an officer for petty shit” but they’ll be quick to come harass me if I try to get the shit myself when the Owner isn’t present.

@bizarrefish26: Do you have a past history of being confrontational or nasty to the police? I am just trying to speculate why they’re not being helpful, or willing to talk to you. Can you get someone you know to go talk to the police on your behalf? A friend, a relative? Really, you want someone to talk to the tow yard owner, just to let you get a few things. He is probably concerned you’re going to abandon the car and he won’t get paid for storage for it.

No I mean I’ve always been respectful to the police. Its just I live in a small rural area and I have a bad rep with the town as a whole. It’s always yes sir no sir from me. Im trying to get my dad to go. I went there the day it got towed and explained and offered him $120 cash and he said no. I just don’t see how he can keep me from getting certain items like my social security card. In reality it shouldn’t had been towed. If the trooper would have given me 10 minutes I would’ve called AAA and had them tow it to my boys house and it wouldn’t have costed a darn thing. The owner going to get screwed in the long run. Sooner or later the company I got it from is going to come get it and then he wont get his money anyway. I don’t care what anyone says it does not cost the owner $300 to drive 1 mile to pick it up and 1 mile to drive it back to his shop.

Hate to tell you, but $300 is cheap.Just over 10 years ago it cost me $650 for a similar 1 mile trip

@bizarrefish . I just want you to get your stuff back. Sometimes that involves a lot of BS.
If you don’t want to go through the police, you will likely lose your belongings.

@MrGrimm888 I know. I’m going to consult legal council also. @SEKA I don’t know man when your the one and only junkyard in the area and make at least 3 times that in a day, you could be a lil flexible. Bottom line he shouldn’t have even been involved. I have AAA. All the trooper had to do was allow me to call them. God don’t like greed and they’ll get it in the end . Karma is a cold hearted witch.
