Can you point me to a good source for an analysis of Walter Mitty? Or alternatively, can you tell me what you think about the story?

I’m looking for an in-depth analysis into the psychology of Walter Mitty. Most analysis I found only skim over how ridiculous Walter’s dreams are and how they make for a humorous narrative. I haven’t seen a good breakdown of Walter’s dreams and how it is connected to his life in general, things like that.

So yeah, I’m partly looking for a credible source of this claim on Wikipedia: Although the story has humorous elements, there is a darker and more significant message underlying the text, leading to a more tragic interpretation of the Mitty character. Even in his heroic daydreams, Mitty does not triumph… If this claim is true, then it would be great if I could see how that works out psychologically.

If you don’t know any source, you could just tell me what you think of the story and the character :) I don’t know how well-known this story is in the US so…
