Book Suggestions? (Mainly horror/thriller/mystery)

“Great Question” (1points)

Any good book suggestions in the horror/thriller/mystery department you all know of?

During these quarantine times I’ve been on and off with my reading but also accumulating books at the same time. All suggestions are welcome, whether they be: a novel, a series, a children’s book, a comic, light novel/manga, or poetry, or even a mixture of short stories. :)

Plus All Hollows Eve is near, that’s mainly why I’m asking.

I was absorbed by The Alienist. – “The year is 1896. The city is New York. Newspaper reporter John Schuyler Moore is summoned by his friend Dr. Laszlo Kreizler—a psychologist, or “alienist”—to view the horribly mutilated body of an adolescent boy abandoned on the unfinished Williamsburg Bridge. From there the two embark on a revolutionary effort in criminology: creating a psychological profile of the perpetrator based on the details of his crimes. Their dangerous quest takes them into the tortured past and twisted mind of a murderer who will kill again before their hunt is over.”

The Darwin Affair by Timothy Mason is a great horror/thriller about a sadistic killer’s plot to kill Prince Albert to discredit Darwin in Victorian England. I’m not a lover of thrillers but I couldn’t put it down; well, actually, I had to put it down once in a while when it got too exciting and or scary.!

Author-wise, I’d go with Robert McCammon. Stinger, Swan Song, and Boy’s Life are my favorites. Boy’s Life is a murder mystery. But McCammon creates wonderful characters for his stories. Goin South is an example of this too. A guy is on the run and two hitmen are hired to track him down. One has an extra arm, the other is an Elvis impersonator. Sounds odd, but he makes it work well. Most of his stuff is probably 20 or 30 years old now, though.
You could also resurrect the old Bourne series by Ludlum. Super spy stuff, but fun. Nothing like the movies though. Not sure why they didn’t keep the original story lines since they were great.

@Call_Me_Jay I’ve been waiting to read that book for the longest! Especially when the series came out on TV, I’ll definitely add this to my list. :)

@seawulf575 These are all great suggestions, never heard of any of this. Will definitely have to check them out; I didn’t even know the Bourne series were based on books. I didn’t mind the movies, they were quite interesting. :)

Anything written by Lee Child.

@LazyMe10 The Bourne series was continued on by Eric Van Lustbaden after Ludlum died. I will be honest, I have not read any of his versions of it so cannot speak to how good they are. But Robert Ludlum wrote some really good books.

I haven’t read her books, but a friend of mine writes legal thrillers. Here’s the link. https://www.robinjamesbooks.com/

@elbanditoroso Thank you for the author recommendation, I’ll check them out. :)

@JLeslie I don’t think I’ve ever read a legal thriller. That would be an interesting genre to get into. Thanks for the link. :)
