When Pence spoke, Harris assumed an expression of amused skepticism almost from word 1. It worked well for Biden because he managed it as a reaction to specific utterances of Trump’s and not as a premeditated silent commentary. With her it just looked theatrical. I didn’t like that very much. It also weakened her response when Pence said things that really did deserve a double-take.

I did think she was right to treat Pence as almost as big a liar as his boss. I also really liked the way she reflected being part of a spirited team with Joe and not just a mouthpiece.

As for Pence, I think he must have had a lot of coaching and done a lot of rehearsing to learn to talk over somebody as discourteously and belligerently as he did, even though his performance was no match for Trump’s in that regard. His twisting and turning were conspicuous for lack of smoothness. One example: in response to a question about the pandemic, Harris said the administration had failed the American people. Pence took that up and said it was reprehensible of her to fault the response of the American people as being inadequate and that she had dismissed their sacrifice. I was embarrassed for him, as once again we look like a nation of idiots.

Unlike last week’s disgrace, this debate could be watched without squirming in my seat.

1.The Fly was a star.

2.Pense did no favor to Trump by trying to be obnoxious to two women. The moderator and Kamala. Though I’m sure it was a hit with bigots and knuckle draggers.

3. Kamala wasn’t as strong as she usually is but I suspect she didn’t want to come off as angry or aggressive since black women who argue back are always seen in a bad light and will be labeled as being emotional, or combative, or aggressive or just a B-word or C-word. Men are assertive, commanding, vigorous, or energetic even when they are plainly being a D-word.

The commitment of both to not answer the questions asked, and just recite memorised talking points, is astonishing.
And just like drumpf, pence just keeps on talking, despite repeatedly being told to stop.

The moderators, if you could even call them that, need the ability to cut microphones, and the will to use it.
They need to cut the mic when they refuse to stop talking.
They need to cut the mic when they refuse to answer the question asked, call the candidates out for not answering the question, and restate the question.
If they still refuse to answer and go on an unrelated tangent, they need to be cut off entirely, and then skipped over to the other candidate.

Harris was creepy. Smirky and huge weird smiles. Her teeth were ultra white almost day glow. Why do people do that to their teeth. They must be fake like Biden’s pure white teeth. Perhaps a distraction technique. Harris/Biden look like a couple of Cheshire Cats. All you can see are those teeth sliming in their dark agenda.

Pence looks like OmniCorp’s first generation android model from their “Generic Evil Politician” line. Like Skynet’s early Terminator models with the fake looking rubber skin.

Drumpf looks like Jabba the Hut in a human skin suit.

I intentionally missed about the first half hour.

I didn’t like how Pence just kept talking, on many occasions, even after being told his time was up. I also didn’t like him interrupting Kamala when she was talking. I find that rude and disrespectful and I am glad Kamala called him out on it.

Pundits on ABC and NBC said either that they felt it was a no-winners debate or that Pence lost because he scored no points with women due to his interrupting and insulting the women. I didn’t catch any insults so maybe it was during the first half hour that I missed, or maybe it was meant that the “insult” was because of his interrupting.

@ragingloli LOL, I agree. I always keep telling people he looks like an android. One thing last night. Pense looked like he had pink eye which is very common with Covid. I wondered all night if he had covid. The left eye especially kept looking like it was getting worse. But then again, I don’t think androids can get sick.

It blows my mind that anyone with half a brain watching that or any debate, regardless of party affiliation, would see it as anything but theater of the insincere.

They do not present as genuine, real people in any way whatsoever. It’s is so rehearsed and scripted that it is bloodless and it is so clear that everything said, in varying percentages, is a lie.

Only a few times did I sense the “real” Kamala come through (and I like her). And I only connected with Pence during his final answer to the eighth grader, where I felt it was the “real” Mike coming through for a moment.

Otherwise, these debates are insulting bullshit.

I didn’t realize Kamala is black.

I liked how she stood up to him when he was being rude and interrupting her.

I always find Kamala a little annoying, and the debate was no exception. Pence I found a lot annoying.

Pence over and over again used time in a new question to finish up answering an old question. When he was asked about pre-existing conditions if Trump undies ACA he completely avoided the question and Kamala and the moderated didn’t him pin him down! Kamala got roped in and side tracked, the moderator should have asked the question AGAIN!

Pence during the debate mentioned 60 million people caught H1N1 in 2009 and that showed Obama was terrible at handling the epidemic. I’ve been saying for 6 months that Trump was negligent during the 2017–2018 flu season where 60,000 people died! The H1N1 60million that Pence mentioned, 12,000 people died. The Republicans have been using comparisons of H1N1 in 2009 and 2017–2018 flu season sins in March. Why don’t Democrat’s have the response to those numbers? The numbers actually work in favor of the Democrats who if you really know the numbers. That frustrated me.

They want to get out certain talking points so badly it’s boring. Once they go to lines I hear all the time in social media or cable news it’s tiresome. As you know I think half the lines backfire.

I still think the debates should cover fewer topics. The moderator should have plenty of cushion to ask a few questions twice if the candidate tries to avoid answering.

None of the commentary I’ve seen today pointed out that Pence’s line about facts was not his own. He spoke it as if it were original, but it wasn’t; he simply didn’t give credit. “You’re entitled to your own opinion, you’re not entitled to your own facts” was a paraphrase of a famous line that’s been around for a long time. Several variants of it are all attributed to U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-N.Y.), who died in 2003.

Senator Harris obviously recognized it. No doubt many listeners did. I wonder if anybody else expected Pence to mention the source, maybe by the second time he used the line. I waited, and then realized how silly it was to think he might.

Pence lied throughout the debate, as usual, but the worst moment for me was when Kamala Harris bragged about George Bush’s far right wing cabinet supporting their campaign. Probably the dumbest political strategy a democratic candidate has ever said in a debate. Also, defending fracking was not a good look.

Yeah. Fracking really affects us personally.

I will say this…it was easier to watch Pence than trump. Refreshing to see someone who knows, and mostly follows, the rules.

Personally I would LOVE to see Harris debate Trump. Now THAT would be tv worth watching.
