No, he’s only 72 and seems very healthy.
Edited to add: he’s also the only black Justice, so I don’t think it would be helpful to get him to retire. His wife is a big supporter of trump.
No. His wife won’t let him. She’s the brains behind him, and a rip-roaring conservative. He won’t quite until he dies, or has succeeded in taking away as much freedom as he can from citizens.
I thought for the most part, Supreme Court Justices don’t retire unless they become infirm. I thought they’re pretty much in the job until they die, like the Pope.
Maybe I need to explain more. If Trump loses, there will be four years of the Democrats being able to replace a justice if one becomes sick of dead. Thomas is getting older, and if he retires now, Trump can get a 40 year old into the courts before January.
@jca2 How long did Amy Coney Barrett take? 5 weeks? If I had to bet I don’t think Thomas will leave, but I could see some Republicans wanting it. Plenty of Democrats are angry Ginsburg didn’t retire.
@JLeslie: Someone here was describing how when Obama was President, RBG was in her 70’s and in good shape, so not ready to retire. I can see now that hindsight is 20/20, but when you think of the logic at the time, she probably felt she was in her prime.
I sincerely hope not. He’s such a great guy. He s a justice of and for the people for law and order. He’s a rare judge. Believes in our constitution and bases his decisions on such.
