What do you think the ideal way for American to vote would be in the future and what rules should there be to mitigate things?

“Great Question” (2points)

I was texting with my family about the recent 2020 election. We were talking about the merits of voting by mail, especially during a pandemic, vs. voting in person vs. voting on a computer (which of course has not been done in this country, yet).

Voting on a computer can be hacked. Voting in person is not ideal during a pandemic, especially, but also for elderly and infirm people, and people who can’t get rides, and people who may live in an area where there are storms and other weather events. Voting by mail is allegedly subject to voter fraud and problems with the postal service – things getting lost and things not arriving on time.

In your opinion, going forward, what would be the ideal way for Americans to vote?

What rules do you think should be in place to lessen fraud and allegations of fraud?

It ain’t broke so why fix it???
So far there has been no fraud and there will always be allegations of fraud, which will never change, laws or no laws.

The states who have for years now been mailing out ballots rather than polling places seem to have their systems working really well. It doesn’t even need to involve the mail if there are ballot boxes set up. Those states also have electronic systems for checking that your ballot got processed. So a combination of mailed out paper ballots and electronic checking seems like it can work extremely well, to me.

If you mail out the ballots 2–4 weeks in advance of when they need to be turned in, then most of them can be turned in and processed before election day, as happened in such places this year.

I think that it’s best to involve paper and volunteer and make sure that if/when electronic systems are involved, it should only be in ways that absolutely (no, really, even if someone were to invest 100 billion dollars in corruption attempts) have zero possibility of being hacked.

Just throwing out an idea:
Maybe we can give the right to change ones vote. Say once a month/year whatever. Like what corporations have. Or staggered elections… more so?

Some great things about vote by mail is being able to track your vote, no waiting in line, and safer during a pandemic.

I think this year states should really look to improving their systems so there is less possible question about the validity of the vote.

Improve cleaning up the voter registration rolls so dead people get taken off and maybe look at a better system when people move. Discuss whether to number code ballots. Discuss deadlines for postmarks and ballots arriving to the elections office, etc.

All states should start processing mail-in ballots as they come in at least one week before election day.

I’m in favor of keeping in-person voting also, but all states should have early voting available in my opinion at least ten days before. All voting locations should have drop-offs for the mail-in ballots with last minute drop-offs having a scan or receipt of the drop off that shows real time on the online look-up.
