It would be modified to more closely reflect the percentage of votes per candidate in each state instead of all electoral votes going to just one candidate.

I would like to ditto @stanleybmanly but I doubt that, there are too many interest groups who would want to keep it in force to suit their own agendas.

I think it would probably be eliminated if the existence of the EC were put to a popular vote. The EC is essentially only favored by Republicans since it is the only way they can win presidential elections anymore (since it prioritizes geography over population). Republicans have the geography; they don’t have the population.

That’s exactly my thought. Just as in this past election, they are outnumbered in the popular vote—and they know it. This is a trend that is not going away, which is why ever more schemes and devices must come into play to circumvent the will of the majority.

I’ve favored the abolition of the Electoral College since I learned what it was back in 8th grade. However, I say if we must have it then let’s mandate it it to where each district’s electoral vote goes to the candidate who wins the popular vote in that district. That would make it more representative of the will of the voters.

Any setup designed to “compensate” for the will of the majority through the dilution of one man’s vote in preference of another’s is just plain WRONG and counter to any possible defense as somehow endemic to the national well being.
