It bugs me. I currently just swap out and flip my pillows every 5 minutes till I fall asleep.

Can you please suggest something better?

Try opening a window ?

@si3tech I bought one and It did not work well enough to keep doing. @JLoon Good suggestion, but I am not allowed to open up my windows in winter.

Why is your head hot in February?

longgone's avatar

People in really hot climates sometimes sleep with a plastic bottle of frozen water. That’s definitely cheap and easy to try.

@stanleybmanly My head is hot year round. Winter doesn’t help. In summer I open my windows.

Is your blood pressure under control?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@longgone Great idea. I will do it. Thanks.

@longgone That is the Chillow or a knock off of it. I live where it get up to
110+ degrees F in summer. They work.

@si3tech I haven’t ever tried a Chillow, but it seems very interesting.

Get a small electric fan and aim it at your pillow.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@Tropical_Willie I have a fan on my feet. I will move my bedroom around to get at my head. Or simply even easier to switch sides from head to feet. Thanks I will try now. Done very comfortable. Thanks I will update after I sleep.

@longgone Put a 2 liter bottle of water in the freezer will try when it is cooled.

Three things could also be making you over-heat. Foam pillows hold in heat. I think it’s because the thickness doesn’t allow air to circulate well, if this is the case, then change your pillow to something lighter and smaller and not filled with foam, and if you have long hair and especially thick, pull it up and away from your head and neck but don’t tie it.

And the 3rd thing is the fabric of your pillow cover can also trap heat. 100 percent cotton is best. I have several pillow cases I can’t use because the also make me hot and don’t cool off easy. Get a thin cotton sheet. Oh, I also forgot. If you have some sort of any allergy cover under your pillow case, they also hold the heat in and don’t allow the pillow to cool.

It is the winter! I would turn the temperature down about an hour before bed or use a setback thermostat to do it automatically. If you can’t set the thermostat then cover a register or radiator to reduce heat output.

@Tropical_Willie The fan worked. Thanks. Had a good sleep. I didn’t need to rotate my pillows.

@RedDeerGuy1 I’ve been looking around on net for alternatives to Chillow. I came across a product called Bear Pillow. It is pricey but sounds interesting. I sympathize with not getting head cool enough for sleep. I moved from Montana to southern UT which is high desert. Beastly hot in summer. I found “alternatives to Chillow” by searching for just that. there are a number of possibilities ther. Good luck!
