What weeds do you find useful and enjoyable in your daily life?

Is it dandelion champagne, foraging for inestimable comestibles, growing your own herbs, a garden full of preferred weeds, or fruit and vegetables? What do you grow for personal consumption and enjoyment? Gardening ideas welcome.

A weed is ”…a plant considered undesirable in a particular situation, “a plant in the wrong place”.”
If you have planted herbs they are not weeds.
On the other hand that 100 year old oak tree in the yard would be considered a weed if you don’t want it.

Well, my husband tried for decades to kill off the backyard chard and failed. Now my son is harvesting it and making soup. There’s plenty of spearmint growing freely, and the rosemary is thriving on benign neglect. Sometimes volunteer cherry tomatoes show up.

If we plant them and cultivate them intentionally, though, they aren’t weeds.

If a weed is just a plant growing where you don’t want it, a vegetable is basically a plant you can eat without harm. Some that are considered weeds in this spot would be vegetables in that one. And some are vegetables that we simply haven’t recognized. I took a nature walk once with a guide who pointed out all the edible plants we encountered along the way and served up handfuls of little leaves for us to sample.

Yes. Weeds can be useful and enjoyable if they are wanted. But if they are wanted they aren’t weeds. Please look up the definition of a weed.

No. Not THAT kind of weed. And if marijuana is planted and cultivated it is not a weed. It’s a crop.

Look. The thread is really short. Read it.

The grandkids love prowling around the house looking for bunches of wild onions growing in the yard. They pull them up and munch on them.
Of course, they wouldn’t touch an onion in their food at home!
