When grieving, is it better to do things in order to remember (the bond, or love, is still there, though it hurts intensely) -- or suppress and forget?

Sometimes, one doesn’t want to give up their grief, because its all that remains of the love which one cannot let go of. The bond is still there, and the memories, but it hurts.

Forgetting, or suppressing, on the other hand, nullifies the pain but forfeits the love that remains. It does not mean you have to get rid of the person’s momentos, but perhaps it DOES mean that you DON’T play that song or smell that fragrance, or go those old familiar places where one experiences powerful memories and flashbacks—but avoids those things.

I think there is no right or wrong way to grieve and no one can dictate to another how it should be done.

Life is full of ups and downs.
Try to remember to positive experiences and less more so of the negatives.
In a lifetime one has many experiences to choose to remember, as that is what life is all about.
Experiencing life and learning from it.

Forget. Time will take care of the rest.

It depends on the circumstances of the loss. If the other person turns out to be toxic, then it’s better to forget. If not, then it’s better to cherish the memory.
