Well, when I say “we” I mean “some people” (I don’t do it myself).
So, people sing there, but not elsewhere.
What gives?

The reverberations in the shower stall make for good acoustics. I sometimes sing in the shower.

What @LostInParadise said. The acoustics are excellent, and because of the water noise, I can’t hear the dog howling.
I also sing in my car. Again, the acoustics are fabulous.

No one can hear your bad singing.

Why do we sing at all?

I’m sure it’s mostly the acoustics, but I also think there’s something inherently liberating psychologically about being naked, alone and in your own private world free from judgment or pretense.

I don’t.

It’s like cupping your hands to your ears: You can really hear yourself, and hit the proper notes without sounding flat, if that is possible.

One time I was belting out my rendition of:

“Happiness is, happiness is, happiness is,
Different things to different people,
That’s what happiness is”.

But the aitches were lost in the diction of the otherwise superlative acoustics.

I was exonerated after explaining that I was singing about happiness.
