Most of us have seperate tv’s in my area. Generally employers like you to be working not watching tv, so better to have it offline or in a seperate system.

If I had to pick a streaming service, just one, I’d probably pick Prime Video myself.

If it were me but I am not a techie, I would get a separate TV because I would worry about slowing down the speed of my work computer. For streaming, I have Netflix and Prime and have a lot of things available through them but you’re always going to miss some things if you don’t get other services as well. Some of it depends on what type of programs you enjoy watching.

The slowing down point is very interesting; I hadn’t thought of that. But, I’m also thinking that either the second monitor or the TV will be hooked to my home Wi-Fi, so maybe it wouldn’t make any difference. As far as the streaming service, I don’t watch a lot of TV, so I would like to go for the less pricey…not sure what that would be.

WiFi will limit your speed and multiple computers, mobile phones and other connections make it slow down, some items if connected may slow down the entire WiFi network.

Right, I understand the slowing down of the connection in general based on the amount of devices that are hooked at one time. The question though is what are the pros-cons of either arrangement, which I am still note sure of. A TV or a second monitor?

How are you getting sound from monitor ?

Not all monitors have speakers or a way to get sound.

TV can be used as a monitor or standalone TV.

I think that when you link a second monitor to your PC, you use the same speaker for both.
Also, I would think that there is a price difference between a 27” second monitor for my computer and a 27” TV. The latter would be more expensive. Not sure. That is why I wanted to have this conversation, to clarify these things.

Yes the second monitor can use the sound card on the PC but only one monitor can have sound. Unless you set up a second set of speakers.

That would be O.K. with me, I don’t think I can listen to two different sources at a time. My idea is to have a video or the news on while I do some work in my home office.

@Yeahright Why not just stream news and minimize it for your free time? Sounds much easier to me.

Unless audio is part of your job, it wouldnt be an issue.

Because if I minimize it, I cannot watch the video or the news, I could just listen. Whereas, with a 2nd monitor/TV, I can split my attention between what I am doing on monitor 1 and at the same time watch TV/videos.
