Can a person's grey hair become less grey as they age?

Male, age in the mid 60s. My beard, which has for years been definitely grey – Santa Clausish – has definitely changed this year.

I trim it every 4–6 weeks to make it short; it gets pretty bushy in the interim.

What I noticed the last couple intervals is that instead of growing back pure white, it’s growing salt-and-pepper – definite brownish cast to the beard.

Sadly, this isn’t happening to the hair on top of my head, what’s left of it.

Why would grey hair grow back with color after all these years?

Could it be the vaccine?
Could it be global warming?

Why would something like this change?
