Females will, to some extend, defend territory when they have young in a den/nest/etc.
Males fight for territory for the sake of any females that may come into that area/herd.

Ha, not at all. Women generally have a higher boiling point, but can be quite deadly. Some are very possesive and territorial.
Experts say female serial killers are prolific and rarely get caught.

If they don’t get caught how do they know they’re females @KNOWITALL?

“Territory” can be originally interpreted as “resources”, so no, it’s not only males by any means.

Obviously you haven’t seen hookers fighting over a street corner.

Dutchess_III's avatar

No. Can’t say that I have. Have you @filmfann?

@Dutchess “rarely”. So they do get caught. That is how they got their statistics.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Most do not get caught according to @KNOWITALL. So how do they know the ones who aren’t caught are female?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Interesting stats. But it doesn’t answer the question. If they aren’t caught how do they know the murderer was female?

Any expert I’ve ever heard on the subject always says that although female serial killers exist, they are rare.

As far as animals go, females also will fight for territory, especially against an interloper.

If one is to relate territory with possessivness then there are lots of women who are possessive of their male partner.

Unfortunately some males loves this attention when two women fight over them.

But in most cases I think that once married to that male ( their possession) they find in marriage that it isn’t what they thought it would be like and surley the regret follows.

For that man who loves to be the center of attention of two women fighting over him and one eventually wins him over, in some cases if not all, the man is the loser as she becomes worse over the years, accusing him of being with other women etc

A lose- lose relationship.

I suppose it could happen with women too whose partner is possessive and behaviour amps up during the marriage. ( controlling ).

I would never fight over a man. That’s just dumb.

When I think of animals fighting for territory, I think of hummingbirds. Hummingbirds are quite adamant about protecting food sources, and will fight of any other hummingbirds (and other birds) that tru to move in.

That includes female hummingbirds fighting off males to protect the nectar source.
