I gained about 40 pounds since the pandemic began, but recently I’ve noticed my upper belly storing more fat than usual, even causing new stretch marks to appear. I don’t live the healthiest lifestyle and I’ve always been overweight, but I’ve never had this much fat storage on my upper belly before. Could there a specific reason this is happening? Is it anything to be concerned about?

So many factors to consider: are you male or female, your age range, caloric intake, level of exercise. You should ask your doctor.

Upper belly fat can be the result of your body storing water weight. Sodium consumption, dehydration, and a lack of electrolytes can cause your body to retain water. This can make your stomach and other areas of your body appear swollen. Stick to a diet low in salt while you’re working to lose belly fat.

Weight gain in the upper belly can be a sign of several different things. It could be a sign of excess fat accumulation, or it could be a sign of an underlying medical condition, such as liver disease or a hormonal disorder. If you are concerned about sudden or significant weight gain in this area, it is always best to consult with a doctor for a proper diagnosis. They will be able to determine the cause of your weight gain and recommend a course of treatment.
