Felis Catus
is your taxonomic nomenclature
An endothermic quadruped
carniverous by nature
Your visual, olfactory,
and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills
and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued
by your sub-vocal oscillations
A singular development
of cat communications
That obviates your
basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur
to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential
for your acrobatic talents
You would not be so agile
if you lacked its counterbalance
And when not being utilized
to aid in locomotion
It often serves to illustrate
the state of your emotion
Oh Spot,
e complex levels of behavior you display
Denote a fairly well developed cognitive array
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

Well, all the un-bred cats, broadly referred to as Domestic Short Hair (DSH) and Domestic Long Hair (DLH).

Breeds are all their own standards, it seems to me.

And of course, each has their own personality.

Dammit.

I was never issued a cat.

Where do I complain?

Zaku's avatar

An animal shelter can remedy your complaint.

JLoon's avatar

@Zaku – I don’t really want a cat. I just want to complain.

Zaku's avatar

Call back the random spam callers and complain you weren’t issued a cat.

JLoon's avatar

@Zaku – They’re not random anymore. I think they want a relationship.

But as long as you know how I feel I think that’s progress.

Zaku's avatar

I was thinking it might be a way to get them to reconsider wanting a relationship, and stop calling.

JLoon's avatar

@Zaku – Hmmmm. That might work – as long as I don’t end up with a damn cat.

Cats are sentient.

To answer the question, though: in my catalog of categories, generic cat = gray tiger-striped short-haired female.

<—Sort of like my kneesocks.

Calico. Almost all are female.

When I was growing up our neighbors let their calico female have as many litters a year as she could have. They were disappointed that all the kittens looked like our nondescript, but large and strong, yellow tabby Tom.

ragingloli's avatar

Did they ever demand child support from you?

Zaku's avatar

I had a calico kitten, but the mother was a greyish tabby with a bit of orange, and the father was probably all black. The mother’s brothers were all yellow & white tabbies. The calico’s brothers were black, orange tabby, and black & white.
