Embrace the cloud and don’t worry about it too much. I only have a 64gb phone and I just utilize cloud storage for most things.

Data is different. Honestly just see how much you use a month and go from there. 1TB is probably way too much.

@Blackwater_Park I use cloud storage as well. I have a family plan and we have unlimited data so that’s not an issue.

What do you have now and how full?

Without knowing what you have now I think get at least 128, because newer technology and apps will probably use more space. 256 sounds good to me if you aren’t currently anywhere near 128 in your old phone.

I just got a new phone and stuck with 128, but my dad went up to a 256. He was probably right to do it. We have 12 minis. I guess you’re looking at the 13.

My opinion is 256 will be plenty, unless you start using your phone for something very different, but I’m not very tech smart.

I went from 16gb to 128gb a few years ago, because I knew I wanted to do more photos and video. I stayed with the 128 when I upgraded a couple of months ago (I had used about 70gb on my phone) and thinking my dad might have been the smart one to go to 256.

Meanwhile, my husband has just 64gb, which I think was a mistake.

Generally it’s photos/videos that will gobble the lion’s share of a phone’s storage. As cameras improve, the file sizes tend to increase in size. Apps and operating systems tend to grow in size as well over the years, as they add features and resources. I would certainly expect healthcare apps to follow this pattern for example.

I tend to buy the second-largest storage capacity option and keep it for many years, or until it breaks.

It depends on how many cat pictures, and especially how much audio/visual recordings and content you might want to store on the phone, but in general, 128 GB is plenty unless you want a lot of that and don’t know how to manage files and/or camera settings a lot.

I have an Android (same difference) with 32 GB, and even when I’ve taken several high-res pictures per day, and had some audio/visual recordings on the phone, and ignored their build-up for a year or two, I haven’t needed to export old photos to my computer more often than that.

One more comment, if you upgrade every two years you will be able to upgrade your space available also at that time. In my family we all tend to keep our phones more than 3 years, so getting a phone with capacity to grow is more important. My dad just traded in his iphone 6, I think it was 6 or 7 years old, and my husband traded in his 7 that quit working that was about 5 years old.

I’m using an iPhone 7 with 128 GB storage. I am currently using 64 GB, about half of that for apps and about a quarter of that for pics. I am doing iCloud backups for the pics but not converting the pics to smaller versions on the phone. (My daughters to that because they had 16 GB iPhones before.) Doing that means I would not have the full res pics on my phone, which I sometimes need. I don’t record very many videos. => I would be OK with the 128 GB version.

I ended up getting a 256 gb version as it was 100 bucks more. That way I never have to worry about anything. I though the 512 (300 bucks more) was overkill.

It depends on your usage. 128 should be good, but if you are taking a lot of photos and videos you may want to consider 256. The newer cameras and video format files are much larger on the 13.
Also if you listen to music on spotify or apple music and download them, they will take a good amount of space.

You can go to Settings then Icloud to see your current usage profile with photos, messages, etc
