There is a false premise in your question. Spending a bit more on a high quality product is not necessarily a “luxury”, it is often the most economical action, because one pays for a higher quality.

I pay a bit more for beef from a butcher rater than from the meat counter at Safeway of Trader Joes because the quality is better and I have no waste. I fare better with a 4 ounce grass fed steak from a butcher than with an eight ounce feedlot steak from a large chain supermarket.

Spending on 3 ply TP or even buying cereals or sodas is wasteful, paying for crap either on the way in or the way out.

I buy high tech carbon fiber outrigger canoes built for speed and racing. I have a 3-man, 2-man and three 1-man canoes (2 with rudders and 1 rudderless). All with the latest modern state of the art technology. So much fun.

I purchase good hair products without sulfates as it is healthier for hair growth and so on.

I wouldn’t worry about “false premise” statement as it isn’t false to you.

Luxury is subjective and things that others take for granted are seen as a luxury for you.

^I agree. One mans crap can be another mans luxury.
I, too spend more on hair products as I lost a lot of hair about 4 years ago due to illness. My hair is back thicker now and wavy.
I also buy Jiff peanut butter instead of store brand as I feel it tastes better. Yep, Jiff is a luxury to me.

I don’t buy based on luxury but on quality.

That may be food items, clothing items, home maintenance items, pool chemicals, OTC products, etc.

I try not to cheap out as you get what you pay for. I would rather have a good experience versus a ho hum experience.

One area that may be luxury level might be on alcohol based items. Good wine, beer, Bourbon, rum, gin. I am not a heavy consumer of it, but I like having top shelf when I do.

Well I’m a notorious tightwad in my family but I do buy quality tp as a matter of fact.
I will spend money on clothes, shoes and other personal items as opposed to thrifting because I’m a bit of a germaphobe.
Anything for my dogs, as well. No Old Roy for these babies.

The only thing I can think of is my mobile phone which is a bit upper end but I love it and am never without it.

Premium fuel for my limited edition Ford automobile, needs 92 octane or higher.

Couple times a year I’ll buy a six pack of Prime grade Sirloin steaks.

I’m about to replace my 12 year old MacBook Pro with a new 14” MacBook Pro.

Fragrance, and thanks to a jelly, I found one that not only do I love, but other people do, too. It smells soooo clean and fresh and crisp! Aloha!

I don’t skimp on meat and fish, preferring the local butcher and fish market over the supermarket.

Thanksgiving, we get a fresh bird from a local turkey farm. Well worth the money. I wouldn’t even bother serving a frozen bird.

For years I bought cheap clothes that would wear or fall apart within the year. My daughter started buying me nicer brands and now I’m hooked on the comfort and quality — and they last.

Apple products. I know they’re now considered a luxury brand, but I’ve been using Apple since the Apple II circa 1984. I’ve been in love ever since.

I love physical media, and I collect Criterion blu-rays. 40 dollars each, but the supplement material for each movie is usually outstanding. Along with a great restoration of the film itself.

I’m really into good soap. I am into unusual fragrances and I will try to pick up soap at farmers’ markets and craft fairs and places like that. Amazon sometimes has soap that I like. Occasionally, there will be good local soaps at some supermarkets here (smaller chain supermarkets). Some hotels have good soap and I will always take it home.

I’m also into perfume – I have been wearing perfume daily since I was about 14. I have a lot of good stuff at home and really have to fight the urge to buy more.

@jca2 That’s interesting. I enjoy specialty soaps, too, but most perfumes are too strong for me. Goat soaps are nice though.

I can’t think of anything that U buy that would be considered a luxury.

Another thing that I have utilized, but is not a “thing” is I have, on occasion, stayed at wonderful hotels that I got great rates on. I’ve stayed at Fairmont in Boston and San Francisco, both with great rates that I got by looking at “special packages” on their sites, as opposed to just trying to make a regular reservation. My aunt visited NYC a few years ago and stayed at the Waldorf, in a suite, for about $170 a night, which she also got from their site. It pays, if you’re interested, to try to look for alternate rates on hotel sites (not third party sites, the hotel sites themselves).

Sometimes I drink cappucino ( very rarely now because they won’t let unvaccinated into a restaurant here ).

Funny, after answering this question I got an ad from a good hand soap on Amazon. The interwebs is watching!
